Garmin Express - "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect."

Former Member
Former Member
Hi All,

I am looking for some help with the below issue:

I am able to sync my Garmin Edge 800 & 810 with my Garmin connect account, I.E it is sync my recent activities, but it will not allow me to push new courses created and throw up the error within Garmin express ""There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect." even-though the last sync time with my device is being updated within the software.

All of my software is up to date in regards to device firmware and Garmin Express.

I have two devices, a edge 800 & 810 that both experience these issues, I have also tried using a different computer, using a different network to perform the send to device action.

Please see attached image of error message.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the tip, VickSP, but for me, there are no items showing in the queue :( For now, I have to continue to use the manual upload process I found.

I am sorry for the troubles. Your account shows an activity uploaded today from the Edge 810. Removing the device from Garmin Express and Garmin Connect should be done if you ever encounter repeated sync failure errors. See the FAQ: How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

Since the Edge 810 is a mass storage device you can manually import activity files from the device. See the FAQ: How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect? Any files that fail to import should be removed or deleted from the device as they may have corrupt data in them. Once the file is removed normal sync should resume.

hi. i've already removed the edge from express and then added again... same problems. with manual upload i can't sync tanita's data.
the firmware is 3.62, but express display 3.60.
    sync with bluetooth is ok.
  • GTI7

Since the 3.62 is a beta version Express will not display it. I just tested the beta version and synced without a problem. I do not have access to a Tanita scale though. Have you tried checking the folder in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\UnitID\Sync\FIT_TYPE_4 and FIT_TYPE_9 folders. Leave the FIT_TYPE_9 files but remove the files from the FIT_TYPE_4 folder. Other contacting us by phone to investigate the issue further I suggest you remove it Express and Connect then from Master Reset the device.

  • Garmin Express dramas

I have had problems - unable to sync/upload with Garmin Express for many many months. I have tried everything, many many times - often for 3 hours a time. Total time wasted - probably over 100 hours. Useless.

The only way I can ever upload data from my 910XT is to download the old Ant Agent software, set the 910XT to pair, and this sometimes works. Avoid Garmin Express altogether.

Garmin - don't get me wrong, I love your products - use them all the time. But this upload problem with Express must be fixed before I ever buy Garmin again.

Oh - and having the call centre only open from Mon-Fri 9-5pm is completely useless, because I work like everyone else and I upload using my home PC. Therefore - its impossible to contact you - completely impossible.

    Please get this fixed
  • Plus 1 on all of this -- I've tried everything - Forerunner 210 was syncing until Dec 2014 and then quit - everything's up-to-date, device delete/reinstalls done, FIT files deleted & etc.

I'm also having this problem.. Wont synch. Sometimes restarting the computer a few times works. Have a 910 and a vivofit. looks to me like this time its because it is trying to download new software onto the watch and vivofit.

This is all a bit rubbish.

I get the same issue - cannot sync. Thought it might have been a proxy / firewall issue, but turned off and still getting the same problem.

Error log shows this. I tried emailing support, but got a lovely message "We are unable to send your email at this time". A lot of Garmin online is broken at the moment it seems.

I too am having all these issues. I have a 910xt and a few days ago it simply wouldn't upload. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the Garmin Express (actually I had whatever was before GE because I knew when it came out it had major issues so I stayed away) and now it won't work at all. At all.

I tried installing this on my Mac too and it won't even install. Extremely frustrating.

Can someone point me to how to do this manually? I actually always downloaded stuff from Garmin Connect and then uploaded to Strava manually (since the GE never worked for me), so I'm not sure how to get any of these files manually if they're not on garmin connect....

I have finally got it working but have been having this problem for about a month now after updating Garmin Express software, wasted many hours trying all the solutions suggested to no avail (re-installing GE, factory reset, delete and re-add to Garmin connect etc). Was patient waiting for updates and had updated GE a couple of times and it still did not fix it. Very, very disappointed in Garmin as it seems like lots of others having same problem with a basic core feature of the product (I'm using an Edge 500 but sounds like lots of other models affected).

So here is how I got it working on my Windows 7 64bit, good luck to everyone else:

    1. Uninstalled ALL Garmin software from my PC (I also had 2 copies of Garmin Communicator Plugin installed the 32bit and 64bit versions)
    2. Rebooted
    3. Found and installed an old copy of Garmin Express 3.2.4.0 that I downloaded May last year.
    4. Started GE 3.2.4 got partway through setting up my GPS and got a message telling me it needed to close to install an update!!!!!
    5. When it restarted it came up as 4.0.19 -sigh-
    6. Configured it expecting it to fail... and it worked!!
    7. Went into GE settings and UN-ticked "Install non-critical Garmin Express updates automatically" and set "Automatically download device updates" to NEVER!

Needless to say when I got to no.4 and 5 there was a little colourful language but was relieved it worked.

Please, please, please, Garmin do not force another "critical" update out that breaks it for me again!

Used to be a vocal advocate of Garmin, not so much now.
