I am sorry for the troubles. There may be files from earlier attempts interfering with the sync process. Express stores files in a folder on the computer before uploading them to Connect. Please use the FAQ: Where do my activities go on the computer before they are uploaded to Garmin Connect? to locate files that were not uploaded. Technically, this folder should be empty after a successful sync. If there are any files then you can try to manually upload them. All files must have the .FIT extension before manually Importing into Connect. Use the steps in the FAQ: How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect? to manually Import to Connect. Replace the device in Step 7 for the folder in the first article. Connect will only upload valid activity files that have not already been uploaded. Regardless if Connect accepts the file(s) they should be removed as not to interfere with future syncing.

In addition to these steps you can resend all the activities in the History folder on the 310XT/910XT. I recommend deleting all but the last 30 days worth of History on the watch before resending. To prevent future sync issues. Delete the watch from Express and Connect, Master Reset it then add it back again. See the FAQ: How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express? and How do I master reset my Forerunner 910XT?

Again I am sorry for the troubles.

  • The first link you sent "Where do my activities go on the computer before they are uploaded to Garmin Connect?" points to this: What should I do if I am having problems downloading updates in Garmin Express?
I'm not having problems downloading updates I'm having problems uploading information from my watch to Garmin Connect! As a matter of fact I just got an update and it installed and it still didn't upload my run from tonight. Therefore it doesn't help me with finding a folder on my computer.

The second link you sent "How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect?" points to this: How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect?
And it says that I have to: "Connect device to computer via USB cable." Well I don't have any place to connect my watch to a usb cable on my 910XT!

The last part about resetting my device I did about 6 weeks ago when I was having other problems and lost 6 days of activities this help fix another problem but I am having the upload problem now.

Sorry about that. This one is linked correctly. Where do my activities go on the computer before they are uploaded to Garmin Connect?

The above article points to the location on the computer where the files are that you'll want to manually upload. You'll want to substitute that location for the device referenced in the second article. Once the files are uploaded to Connect make sure to delete them. That folder should be empty after a successful sync.

    Sorry for the troubles.

  • Ok, I ran last night and my data seemed to sync but nothing showed up in garmin connect so I tried to manually import them. I have explorer set to show file extensions however all I have are 43 files from 635661038880000000884 to 635661038880000000926. All have same date 02/05/2015 and are from 11:42 PM to 11:48 PM. They are in the FIT_TYPE_4 folder. Do I have to rename then with the FIT extension to import all of them?
  • I found a way to get my data into Garmin connect. If you go to activities and go to manual update then you go to history on your Garmin device then you can enter the data manually. It is much faster and I was able to get my last several activities without resetting my 910xt.

310XT, Win 8.1, also having syncing problems

I'm also having the re-authentication problem mentioned in this thread with my device. I was able to upload manually by following the instructions above, but I had to rename the files in my local computer to .fit because they did not have an extension and Garmin Connect refused to recognize them without the extension.

I'm very disappointed with the 310XT. Before I had the 205 which served me very well during 6 years. I could sync using simply a USB cable, which always worked perfectly, there was no need for this unreliable Ant stick. The 310XT has been a a big step back, it has caused me a lot of trouble since the first day I had it. It's a shame because the watch itself is very good, but the software is terrible.

I have also had this issue with my 310XT. My last two workouts (both bike rides) failed to sync. I tried transferring all the data, to no avail. I did a master reset and cleared the data. No luck. So today I found this forum and followed the instructions above, found the files on my computer, renamed the last two with the .fit extension and then imported them. That worked. I then deleted all the old files in the folder. So, now, what next? Will the file from my next workout work properly? What is causing this problem? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
  • What devices do the support people from Garmin use? Polar?
I annoys me that they say to hook the 910XT up to a usb cable which it has no connection for and to upload the .fit files and they don't know these files have no extensions.
I think their devices are really good but their software is absolutely terrible and keeps getting worse. I never had many issues till they came out with garmin connect, the old antenna agent (i think thats what it was called) was not perfect but it worked most of the time.
I seem to spend more time trying to get my data uploaded then I do training.

I have had my Garmin less than 1 year & I am fed up of the sync problems. Can I get a refund & buy something that works?

    Curt,

Followed your instructions above. After downloading updates & removing all data from 'Fit 4' file my Garmin sync worked for 1 day.
Now nothing!! I don't get any 'failed sync' messages or anything at all. My device cannot be connected to my computer by USB as suggested.
    Any other suggestions??????????????????????????????
