Unexpected error!!!!

I've just bought my first Garmin and am unable to log my run due to a message that keeps coming up everytime I try to launch Express. I am told its an unexpected error. I am pretty annoyed that having bought the watch the software to support it won't work  Not cool. Is there anyway to make it work. I am on a Windows 7, no access to other devices.

I have been patiently waiting for a solution. I am having the
"An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close.IF you continue to experience this, contact Garmin customer support. "

Well it appears people have contacted support this for quite some time and as yet , I cannot see a solution. Does it exist?

    My details:
Laptop vaio Sony windows 7 professional , all services updated.
Garmin express installed , vivosmart , run as administrator everytime .

    DATE of working
    15 Activities Since Dec 14, 2014
LAST Synced Jan 25, 2015 @ 3:48 [after this the Garmin would not sync causing an error ]

    My Observations:
    a) The GE worked for a period so clearly there is a small error causing the problem ,highly likely due to windows doing something in the background and GE software not allowing for it. Therefore , I wonder if the period or the start of problems has anything to do with a windows upgrade to the OS ?
    b) Are all people experiencing the same problem in the same way ?
ie. My GE worked for a while then stopped . Is anybody experiencing the Garmin problem before the first sync ? If so what date was the first sync attempted ?
    c) People may look at the date the GE stopped syncing versus the last date of sync and seeing if your pc upgraded a windows update during that time and which updates were done . Another possibility could be if the units all stop working after so many days or so many syncs .. for GE to possibly find the issue.
    d) If windows has done an service pack upgrade I would expect the software to cease working for all new purchasers.
    e) Would resetting the GARMIN data internally help with this problem ? Could it be corrupted data ? Have we eliminated this ?
    f) Has anyone tried installing on a different pc and testing the same vivosmart ?
    g) It says unexpected error but is there a GE log to say what it actually is ?
    h) To say the pc is the problem and not the GE is damaging and incorrect. Are you saying it is a faulty PC ? Hardware or software and which software , windows ? If so how come all other software works on the pc ? Perhaps the OS upgrade has changed security issues or user permissions but this would be in response to a viral problem and software like GE has to find a way to work with that upgrade. You are essentially stating that the GE has unveiled a bug in the PC OS software which 500 other installed programs have not detected or not found issues with . Clearly, it is a Garmin responsibility and software issue . I think it only serves to get customers off side when you GE techs say the problem is a the "PC" .
    i) It would be reasonable for GE to get on the forum once a week with an announcement about where the issue is , or a note saying the issue has ticket number in their system so we all know it hasn't been forgotton and the report should state if it has been solved so we all know where to go or what to do . Very simple , very effective.

correct me if i am wrong but there is no person here who was not able to connect at least once. As far for my understanding we had all a succesful working GE and after a while it got so corrupted that even a reinstall did not work. Maybe there is some dll or other file left behind that is bugging the program.

I would like to know if there are members that got this error right after the first install and therefore not able to start the program even once. If this is a PC / Windows problem they should be out there.

  • Still doesn't work even with the new 4.0 release ...
It looks like Garmin doesn't have anymore top developers but only marketing guys...

One tiny problem. The update launches from within garmin express. But garmin express won't start. How dit you get the update. Because the website download is version 3.2.29 and not 4.0.2.0
  • I got it on the Garmin Express (french) website : http://software.garmin.com/fr-FR/express-download.html
I know that it is the 4.0 release because I can see the new UI just before GE crashes ...

I still get the Dutch older version. I think i have to be patient before i can try it.

Because i really needed a map update i installed vmplayer with windows 7 as a virtual machine with only avast anti virus and garmin express. After some trouble connecting the usb port i was able to update my device.

But this is a wrong work around, we should be able to use garmin express on our computer.
