I've just bought my first Garmin and am unable to log my run due to a message that keeps coming up everytime I try to launch Express. I am told its an unexpected error. I am pretty annoyed that having bought the watch the software to support it won't work  Not cool. Is there anyway to make it work. I am on a Windows 7, no access to other devices.
Are you using v4.0.8.0? If not, you can download it here: http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.exe If you are using this version, you are most likely experiencing a different issue. Please follow the instructions in the FAQ below to resolve most Express issues: What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?
If this does not solve the problem, I would it would be best to contact support by phone.
I have tried with version 4.0.8.0 and today with 4.013.0. Still the same message. I have read the link you sent, but there is nog solution there. Thanks for your reply.

I am a long time (probably nearly 30 years) Garmin user, and have seen no need to join a forum before now, but I must advise that Express does seem, on my machine at least, to be completely incompatible. For Garmin's use, I have raised a ticket some time ago (4239446) and I can report that Express continues to be essentially useless whether using a new Zumo 390 or my stalwart 1410. It fails part-way through the download with a message that it must close. This sounds much the same as others have reported.
However, my main concern is the quality of support available from Garmin. I don't mind being sent a checklist of things that are fatuous and useful mostly for someone who is not well versed with computers once, but to be repeatedly sent the same pedestrian list is not acceptable. Sending me irrelevant boilerplate scripts about error messages I do not have doesn't inspire confidence either. I can send you event logs and other detailed data - just ask.
From this forum I have gleaned that there is a library file either missing that Express expects to be present or is corrupt or out of date. Rather than bundling basecamp and all the other stuff - bundle the library/ies you require with the installer. That way, everyone has a known working copy. Don't assume everyone has multiple computers available to do your work for you. I do have several computers, but - guess what? I don't know what is wrong with your software any more than you do and I'm not about to experiment and possibly put out of action other devices. The simplest solution is (as I have asked by email) to reactivate the downloads though the Garmin website until you have sorted out Garmin Express. As of right now, it's anything but.
