Garmin Express not connecting to Garmin Servers

Former Member
Former Member
Hi,

I am unable to update my Garmin Forerunner 620.

I can't do this because whenever I try and connect the device to the computer I get a message saying that the software cannot connect with the garmin servers.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software many times.

Soft and hard resetting the device many times.

How do I fix this problem. Because it is getting to the point where I will return the device for a refund.

Thanks

I can confirm that updates are working since 2 days. I could add my Vivosmart to Express and the upgrade of the software worked as well. The upgrade of the City Navigator worked as well and my Edge 1000 was upgraded as well.
It seems Garmin fixed the problems with the upgrade server. It would have been much better if Garmin support reports the problems with their upgrade server instead of saying the problem is with the clients (like they did in this thread).

I am sorry that you are having trouble with Garmin Express. If you are still experiencing problems, these types of issues should be resolved by following the instructions here:
How do I correct the Unable to connect with Garmin Services error message in Garmin Express?

Be sure that when you check the date and time, you also verify the time zone is correct.

Got a 2nd hand Garmin Edge 500 and could not get it to work either. Spent hours and hours and finally solved it. Skip the complete Garmin FAQ with things like proxy, resinstall, etc. Also no difference in Windows & MacOS. The former owner deleted the Edge in his Garmin so that was no the issue either. I could login in Garmin website online with no problem so my account was correct. Furthermore when connecting with USB cable Garmin Express software could see my Edge (with green dot next to it). But when trying to login I got something like could not connect to server or trying to reach server without succes (the Dutch version so I have no clue what the English version is).
Without further ado my winning combination. On a forum I read something about setting your laptop in the correct country/timezone but this was already correct in my case. But it triggered me. What if the Garmin device in one way or another did not have the correct time/date? Here is what I did:
    1. Hard reset (in my case 3 out of buttons, check garmin website)
    2. let the thing find sattelites
BAM! synced after long time and worked in Garmin Express again.
I dont know if 1 is needed so you skip that probably.
What happened? The former owner had not used it for a long time so the Edge lost all (predictive) GPS positioning info. With all my fiddling today (and earlier) I never gave it the change to find sattelites again. In my scenario it has to find them from scratch so it took about half an hour. I bet a lot of people with this issue have the same.
