Garmin Express not connecting to Garmin Servers

Hi,

I am unable to update my Garmin Forerunner 620.

I can't do this because whenever I try and connect the device to the computer I get a message saying that the software cannot connect with the garmin servers.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software many times.

Soft and hard resetting the device many times.

How do I fix this problem. Because it is getting to the point where I will return the device for a refund.

Thanks

Yesterday there was an issue with the Garmin Connect servers which caused an outage. This server error could have caused your problem. The issue has now since been resolved and everything is up as normal. This being said are you still having this issue right now? If so is this the 1st time you have tried to sync your device with Garmin Express? I noticed in the screen shot that you had the installer running the reason I ask. If this is not the 1st time have you ever been able to add your device to Express and sync your data?

There are a few reason this issue could be coming into play:
    1) The date and time on your computer are not correct so it can cause sync issues due to stale data
    2) There is a 3rd party program blocking communication with the Garmin servers such as security programs, try disabling the the programs you are running
    3) The internet connection being used is running through some type of VPN or Proxy set up. Disable these and try to connect via a normal LAN connection

Please try the above suggestions and let me know if these correct your issue.

  • Hi Mike,

I seem to experience the same issue. Is there some logging I can inspect? Do you know the URL that Garmin Express is trying to access so I can try it manually?
Date and time are synced, I've switched of the VPN and proxy. But no luck yet.
Used to work before. But it is a company PC I'm using so they could well have changed something I'm not aware of.

    Thanks,

    Michel

I am sorry that you are having trouble with Garmin Express. There are logs stored in %programdata%\Garmin\Logs\CoreService that may give us an idea of what is happening but it would be a good idea to start with the basics in the following FAQ:
How do I correct the Unable to connect with Garmin Services error message in Garmin Express?

You can also make sure that you can connect to our server by going to http://omt.garmin.com.

I haven't been able to use Garmin Express for nearly 2 weeks now. It was working fine one day and it keeps saying unable to connect to garmin services and my 510 is recognised as a Nuvi 2508 and I don't own a Nuvi. This means I can't even connect to garmin connect any more

I have tried all the online help and uninstalled and reinstalled garmin express and followed customer service advice from an email and when I responed back to say It didn't work I haven't heard any more from Garmin!

Please, please, please, please, please help
  • I have had this problem for over a week too. There must be a problem with the servers?

I cannot sync data from my vivofit for over a week now - it tells me of a problem with servers - when is this going to be sorted??

No reported problems with the Servers today. That error simply means that Express cannot communicate with the servers which could be caused by many different things. I suggest you start with the FAQ: What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?

I have exactly the same problem. I want to add my new Vivosmart in Garmin Express. GE discovers the VS but after entering my credentials it says that it would add this activity tracker to Garmin Connect (it is already added in Connect via the smartphone app) and then it says there is a problem with the Express Server and Garmin is working on it and I should try later on. But I receive this message already since one week.

There is a direct connection (no VPN and no proxy). The address omt/garmin.com replies with "server is reachable".

I am having the exact issue with trying to set up my vivosmart with GE. My 910xt and Forerunner 310 set up fine. Trying the out.garmin.com link comes back with my computer can connect. HELP.

"Garmin Express" recognizes my device (910XT) but each time I attempt to log in I get this message, “We're Sorry …
There's a problem with our servers, which means that Express is temporarily unavailable. We're working as fast as we can to get it back up and running. Please try again later."
I just got back to using my 910 after a long recovery and for days I could not upload my data to the old software version, "Garmin Connect", via ant USB stick on any of my computers. I uninstalled all software and reinstalled the latest version and still no connection. Yesterday and today I can now upload to Garmin Connect (Not Garmin Express) so I suspect Garmin is having issues their software updates.
