Forerunner 310XT wont upload without re-pairing every time

Garmin Express is driving me mad! I used to be able to sync workouts from my Forerunner 310XT with no problems but over a month ago when a new version of GE auto updated on my desktop it just refuses to upload any workouts without me going through the following (this was suggested in a post I found on a google search from another exasperated user)...
- launch Garmin Express, from drop down pick 'add new device'
- GE searches and finds another Forerunner 310XT which is 'not compatible with Express' and offers me an 'ignore button' which I press
- I go to drop down again and pick 'add new device', this time it finds another Forerunner 310XT with the same serial number as the one it already lists! I click 'add device' button
- GE starts a pairing process and I need to click the button 'I want to sync to exisiting account', I then need to put in my Garmin account logon details
- Finally GE deigns to upload my workout :(

I keep checking for newer versions of GE which may fix this bug, but after many different versions there is no solution to this nightmare (I am on the latest and greatest GE v3.2.19.0
If anyone knows of any other workarounds I would love to try them out as I am on the point of ditching Garmin forever and getting something else that is easier and reliable to upload.
(BTW I have tried the upload on 3 different computers, 2 running Win7 and one running Win8.1 and so am confident it is a GE issue)

Same here, 310XT brand new, synced once then have to re-pair for every sync then it quit doing that. I have tried every suggestion on the web, I have moved to different places in the house in case there was interference. I have tried all of my usb ports. I have removed and re-installed express.

What I did find that works is to close Express, go to Task Manager and end the ExpressTray.exe, then re-start Express and search for a new device, then re-link to Garmin Connect but I have to do that every time. Hope that helps.

Windows 7 and the latest version of 310XT firmware and Express software (brand new watch).

EDIT: It also will not upload anything to the watch.

You'd probably be wise to get something different. I've had this issue for a year and no resolution. I wish I'd returned mine when I had the chance.

Just in case anyone wants to know the secret recipe they're PMing

NOT A SOLUTION FOR EVERYONE. A MEANS OF COLLECTING DATA

It didn't work for me, but maybe it will for you.

Thank you for the logs. They indicate that Express is trying to send the workout file to a location on the watch which does not exist. In you case we will have to delete the device from Express and Garmin Connect, perform a Master Reset the 310XT then pair it back again. Once that is complete you should be able to send workouts from Connect Modern.

How do I reset my Forerunner 910XT and 310XT?

I didn't see any other errors in the logs except for Express failing to transfer the file to a non-existent location on the 310XT. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Same issue as everyone else. Express won't recognize new activities!
  • EYESHAW

This forum address the issue with Express where a 310XT will not transfer activities unless it is paired with Express each time. Since the description of your issue implies a slightly different issue please start with What troubleshooting options can I try when my ANT enabled fitness device will not upload data?

I looked over your logs and there are a number of unusual errors, there are considerable number of Microsoft .NET Framework errors and possibly some corrupt data on the 310XT. I looked through your forum posts and there is no mention of any troubleshooting steps you've completed so I suggest you run a repair on the .Microsoft .NET Framework then delete the device from Express and Connect, master reset the 310XT then pair and sync it again.

To resolve an issue with Microsoft .NET Framework, download and run Microsoft's .NET Framework Repair Tool:

same issue here... 310xt .. windows 8.1 Pro.. sometimes it pairs others it just doesnt.. no amount of restarts of pc or garmin seem to make a difference...
    310xt is running version 4.50
    Garmin Express running version 3.2.19.0

    cheers
  • The issue with Express having to pair each time or rather loose pairing is being worked on. The issue stems from the 310XT and how it creates a GarmiDevice.xml file with in Express. This is actively being worked on. At this time the only way to correct this issue is to Master Reset the 310XT. To correct the issue:

    1. Remove the forerunner 310XT from Express
    2. Pair the device to Express to upload data
    3. Remove the device from Express
    4. Perform a Master Reset
    5. Pair the device to Express again

i have the same problem. I've spent hours on the phone with garmin. I'm very frustrated.

Mike's instructions in post #19 should fix the issue of the sync button being grayed out and having to pair each time. If your issue is different, provide a description. The tell tale sign of this specific issue is that after a successful pair/sync then shutting down Express or a computer restart, the Sync button is grayed out.

If you have already completed the instructions in post #19 and still have the issue, there is one more step to the process which may help. Repeat Mike's instructions but before you pair the device again use the instructions below to delete a file that was left over from the ANT Agent. Express may be pulling incorrect data from it.

    1. Delete the contents of the C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Devic es\
    2. Press the Windows Key + R key together
    3. Type this exactly, %Appdata%
    4. Click OK
    5. Open the Garmin folder
    6. Open the Devices folder
    7. Delete the numbered folder (unit id of the fitness device)

Let us know if you have any other questions.
