Timezone map ready to install - forerunner 610

No matter how many times I run the update on my forerunner 610...or how many times I remove my forerunner device from Garmin Express...or how many times I uninstall and reinstall Garmin Express on my Windows 7 desktop... IT IS ALWAYS THERE - "Timezone map is ready to install". The software developer in me cries a little every time I see it.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it??

I am sorry about the trouble with your Forerunner. This is a known issue for the Forerunner 610. The device does not report back the current version of the time zone map correctly so Garmin Express will offer the update every time the device is synced.

  • I still use Ant Agent with my FR610 but having the same issue. Besides auto time setting works incorrect in my time zone - GMT+3 (RTZ 2 Moscow, Russia).

are you teasing me? After one year of reporting you didn't solve this issue?

I also have the same issue. In addition, I am living in Cozumel, Mexico where the State of Quintana Roo just changed from the Central Timezone to the Eastern Timezone. My Garmin Forerunner 610 is off by one hour. Please help :)

I'm glad to at least receive a response. I'm however quite sure my next watch will not be from Garmin. It might feature wise be optimal for me, but too many bugs in the watch itself and in the supporting software. Worst of all is the lack of communication from Garmin.

It's been almost a year and the bug is still there.

I agree, "it should be resolved".

I second that. Annoying error, and it's been way too long.
  • Jason / EXPRESSCUSTOMERCARE, any progress on this? Understand that R&D and Support is probably full steam ahead with the slew of recently announced/released products, but ignoring the customer base that has been with you for a while with your "legacy" products makes it difficult for me to ante up for your next round of hardware (especially given the slew of other options now flooding the market).

A truthful response as to whether we can anticipate a firmware/software fix is not only appreciated but expected.

I just tested this with a Edge 500 here and once the Time Zone map update was installed it was not offered again. After you complete the Time Zone update make sure you Safely Remove the Edge before you disconnect it. Power on the device and let it start up, then turn it off and connected back to the computer. If the update is offered again, remove the device from Garmin Express then add it back. My guess is that the Time Zone map is already on the Edge but for some reason the GarminDevice.xml file might be missing the part number for it. Express uses the GarminDevice.xml file as am inventory and thinks its missing the map. Performing a Master Reset on the Edge might correct the problem with but it might be more trouble to set the Edge up again then simply ignore the Time Zone update. The Time Zone map is only fairly important if you workout frequently in different Time Zones.

No offence, but you cant ask people to just ignore an annoying problem. Garmin products are not exsactly the cheapest bits of kit.
Simply put, if you go out and bought a new car but the little light in the roof doesnt seem to work like it should would you be happy if the garage told you to just ignore it, because it's only really important if you open up your door frequently at night.... Would you
  • The latest firmware update for the Forerunner 610, version 3.00, should resolve this issue. Anyone still experiencing this problem, update the software on the device. Once it is updated, Garmin Express should no longer prompt for the Time Zone install. If it does, delete the device from Express, reboot the computer, and add the device back to Express. If the Time Zone is still offered, call Product Support by phone for further assistance.
