Timezone map ready to install - forerunner 610

No matter how many times I run the update on my forerunner 610...or how many times I remove my forerunner device from Garmin Express...or how many times I uninstall and reinstall Garmin Express on my Windows 7 desktop... IT IS ALWAYS THERE - "Timezone map is ready to install". The software developer in me cries a little every time I see it.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it??

    I am sorry for the troubles. The Forerunner 610is not reporting the correct version of the Time Zone map to Garmin Express. This issue should be resolved in a future issue of Garmin Express. Until then please ignore the prompt to update the Time Zone.

  • This smallish issue has been there more or less since Garmin Express replaced the previous version. While the Garmin Forerunner 610 and newer are very good products, my next one will probably be another brand as I'm tired of all the small and large bugs introduced with every new version.

    Same exact problem here in Garmin Express, but with a different device (Edge 500): update and update again, remove my device, reinstall Garmin Express, but Time zone map is alwais here, ready to install..:(

    When you delete the device from Express, choose the option to Remove the device from Connect as well. This will clear the Time Zone item from the sync menu in Connect.

    Another step would be be to delete the GarminDevice.xml file from the internal memory on the Edge and let the device recreate it. After you delete the device from Express but before you add it back, follow the instructions below.

    1. Connect the GPS to the computer.
    2. Open your My Computer icon.
    3. Open the Garmin icon.
    4. Open the Garmin folder.
    5. Locate the GarminDevice.xml file.
    6. RIGHT Click on it and choose DELETE.
    7. Disconnect the GPS from your computer and turn it off.
    8. Connect the GPS to your computer again.

    Add the device to Express. If you get the option to update the Time Zone map ignore it and let us know.

    Test performed exactly as you described in your sequence.
    When I'm done, Time zone map was again ready for install for my device (in both Garmin Express and Garmin Connect)
    I'm very disappointed :(
    It seems that something goes wrong in the Garmin software...

    I just tested this with a Edge 500 here and once the Time Zone map update was installed it was not offered again. After you complete the Time Zone update make sure you Safely Remove the Edge before you disconnect it. Power on the device and let it start up, then turn it off and connected back to the computer. If the update is offered again, remove the device from Garmin Express then add it back. My guess is that the Time Zone map is already on the Edge but for some reason the GarminDevice.xml file might be missing the part number for it. Express uses the GarminDevice.xml file as am inventory and thinks its missing the map. Performing a Master Reset on the Edge might correct the problem with but it might be more trouble to set the Edge up again then simply ignore the Time Zone update. The Time Zone map is only fairly important if you workout frequently in different Time Zones.

    After some trials, the issue appears solved now. I operated in the following mode:

    1. I deleted the gmaptz.img in Garmin folder of the device;
    2. I performed the Time Zone Map update (one time again!) from Garmin Express;
    3. I closed Garmin Express, then deleted Device.fit and GarminDevice.xml files from Garmin folder;
    4. Disconnected and reconnected the device to PC (device restarted and re-created the deleted files);

    At the moment, Garmin Express and Garmin Connect no longer offer the update.

    It's been almost a year and the bug is still there.

    I agree, "it should be resolved".

  • I see the same problem with the Garmin Touring. I've tried a couple of fixes (uninstall/reinstall of Garmin Express, deleting GarminDevice.xml on the unit and then installing the timezone update), but the uninstall/reinstall made no difference at all and the xml file delete worked for about two days and I was then back to having the same timezone update offered at each connection.
