Unable to install Garmin Express on Windows 8.1, 64bit

I have problem installing Garmin Express on Windows 8 X64 - Keep getting error message "Service 'Garmin Core Update Service' (Garmin Core Update Service) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
Have tried running as administrator but keep getting same error. Have downloaded latest version of GarminExpressInstaller.
Have tried :

In some cases depending on how the security software is setup along with User Account permissions can cause issues with what has been described in various posts. One thing you can try is forcing access to allow the Garmin Core Services to be allowed through to the internet. These steps may help correct some issues that you may be having.

1. Press the Windows key+R
2. Type "services.msc" and press Enter
3. Locate and right-click Garmin Core Update Service
4. Click Properties
5. Click on Log On tab
6. Select This account
7. Type "Network Service" in the Account field
8. Remove all text from both password fields
9. Click Apply, then click OK on the next three prompts
10. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Stop
11. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Start

but cannot delete password - next time I go to Log On password is still there

    still not working for me

Spent two hours this afternoon trying everything under the sun to get Garmin express to install , even with this fix still wont work. This was a replacement Garmin bought for the lifetime map updates, but fairly useless if i cant even register it or update at all. Tried a wired computer (windows 8) and a WiFi laptop (windows 7 ), patience levels at all time low. Garmin support not open on New Years Eve, so I'm guessing will have to wait until next week before they open again. Debating whether to give up return it and swap to Tom Tom, but really loved my old Garmin.
  • If you are installing the latest version from the link that I posted earlier, it is unrelated to the issue that we were having earlier. I would recommend trying the steps in the FAQ below:
Why do I receive a "Failed. Try again?" error message when installing Garmin Express on a PC?

    Dear Jason,

this version is not available to download at garmin support site (software download), only the old version (I dowonloaded it today) I think that could be interesting make the new version of Garmin Express available to download as soon as possiple. I spent two hours today to find the correct version.

    sincerely,

"Garmin Core Update Service failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

this particular message is caused by a permissions issue on your computer and the latest version will not fix that.
Even though you might have admin permissions, ALL users must have ALL permissions.
Right click on your C drive and select properties/security and edit the users (even "SYSTEM") to allow them full control. Record what they were before editing so you can change them back afterwards. Then run the Garmin Installer again and it should work.

I have same problem. New Lenovo yoga laptop with intel core M processor. I love the laptop and will ditch garmin before I ditch the laptop that's for sure.

Is there a solution for this yet? I've tried the links above to the new version of garmin express and the FAQs. Yes I've tried all that, still can't download.

Please help. I am not waiting months for 'logs to be collected' to justify a fix. I would rather take my forerunner and edge back to shop and go for a different brand instead. Shame as I've been a garmin user for years but the software problems are just driving me away.

I have same problem. New Lenovo yoga laptop with intel core M processor. I bought a Edge 1000 and but am going to have to return it. Tried all the suggestions in this thread and also on Microsoft website.

Any news from Garmin on a fix or suggestions as to which device I can use instead (non-Garmin). Shame because I really liked my old 510 and was looking forward to the 1000.
