Unable to install Garmin Express on Windows 8.1, 64bit

I have problem installing Garmin Express on Windows 8 X64 - Keep getting error message "Service 'Garmin Core Update Service' (Garmin Core Update Service) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
Have tried running as administrator but keep getting same error. Have downloaded latest version of GarminExpressInstaller.
Have tried :

In some cases depending on how the security software is setup along with User Account permissions can cause issues with what has been described in various posts. One thing you can try is forcing access to allow the Garmin Core Services to be allowed through to the internet. These steps may help correct some issues that you may be having.

1. Press the Windows key+R
2. Type "services.msc" and press Enter
3. Locate and right-click Garmin Core Update Service
4. Click Properties
5. Click on Log On tab
6. Select This account
7. Type "Network Service" in the Account field
8. Remove all text from both password fields
9. Click Apply, then click OK on the next three prompts
10. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Stop
11. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Start

but cannot delete password - next time I go to Log On password is still there

Just wanted to let you know, I am having the same issues with Windows 8.1 on a Core i5 desktop. I have tried all steps listed in this thread, aside from whatever is at the FAQ listed, as it is not loading.

Can't install with my laptop windows 8.1
    CPU I7-4700MQ
    Ram 16GB
Tried everything mentioned and nothing works. If no fix I am going to return my garmin products.
  • Works fine on my Win8.1 notebook, so an issue somewhere in your system. Your best bet may be to call Product Support. They can look at your PC remotely to determine the issue. If using wifi try cabling directly if you can to rule out any wifi issues.

Another person with Windows 8.1 Install problems

I am having the same issue as others. Get the same error message when trying to install the latest version of Garmin Express (as in link above).

Spoke with Garmin Support Engineer today for about an hour. He was courteous, and tried a .NET fix, but it failed to help. He ultimately told me that he has seen this problem many times, and that nothing has worked to fix it. He said Garmin had no solution, and that I should try using a different computer.

    I'm using a 1-year old HPTS15 running Windows 8.1 with an AMD A10-5750M APU.

Garmin's got a real problem here!

I have a Quad Core i7 Dell PC.
It was originally running Windows 8.0 when I installed Garmin Express OK.
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and Garmin Express continued to work fine.

Unfortunately my Windows crashed and required a rebuild starting with Windows 8 then upgrading to Windows 8.1.
After that upgrade I tried to install Garmin Express and got the failed to install try again message. I have tried with and without my virus checker on. Tried installing as Administrator.

Currently using MapInstall to keep getting map updates, having purchased the Lifetime Updates.
  • See the post above yours, Garmin have discovered a problem at the moment and are working on it.
