Unable to install Garmin Express on Windows 8.1, 64bit

I have problem installing Garmin Express on Windows 8 X64 - Keep getting error message "Service 'Garmin Core Update Service' (Garmin Core Update Service) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
Have tried running as administrator but keep getting same error. Have downloaded latest version of GarminExpressInstaller.
Have tried :

In some cases depending on how the security software is setup along with User Account permissions can cause issues with what has been described in various posts. One thing you can try is forcing access to allow the Garmin Core Services to be allowed through to the internet. These steps may help correct some issues that you may be having.

1. Press the Windows key+R
2. Type "services.msc" and press Enter
3. Locate and right-click Garmin Core Update Service
4. Click Properties
5. Click on Log On tab
6. Select This account
7. Type "Network Service" in the Account field
8. Remove all text from both password fields
9. Click Apply, then click OK on the next three prompts
10. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Stop
11. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Start

but cannot delete password - next time I go to Log On password is still there

    ^^^Its an Intel Pentium 4 X-86 Family

    From the sticky Thread here.

"Garmin began rolling out Garmin Express v3.2.25.0"

    How come I have v3.2.21.0?
  • Beemerone

When new versions of Garmin Express are released, we generally don't release them to everyone at once. You can download v3.2.25.0 here:
    http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.exe

If you still experience the error with this version, you can try following the instructions in the FAQ below to resolve the issue:
Why do I receive a "Failed. Try again?" error message when installing Garmin Express on a PC?

  • I had the same problem on my new Yoga 3 (Win81, x64) laptop. Called support and got escalated to the engineering team. After about an hour, he confirmed that there was nothing more he could do to solve the problem (also mentioned this problem is common).

Some good news however is that the old ant+ agent is still available and works. I was able to download it and sync my data. So, not perfect, but works.

On a side note, I also noticed that the Garmin Vector Updator no longer launches with the latest update. To be quite frank, I have serious concerns about purchasing future Garmin products when these kind of software issues.

Nothing he could do, ya think. It must be it has to be an issue with my computer. More like an issue with their program.

I tried EVERTHING posted that I could find before I even posted here with no luck.:(

I found my answer with a TomTOM Start model. Installed TomTom Home and all is good even with XP-Pro.:)

I had the same issued mentioned here. I downloaded v3.2.25.0 as indicated by Jason, but still got the error message. I then exited the install, rebooted my windows 8 lap top, and launched the installation again as admin (right click on the installation file, click run as administrator). That fixed my installation problem.

I just spent 45min on the phone with Garmin support to no avail. Currently running 64bit Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo Yoga 3. The one thing we tried was enabling the .NET framework Advanced Services (ticked ASP .NET 4.5)...reooted, but again, the install seems to stumble at the Core Update Service...the service just cannot be started. Really not sure where to go next as the suggestion was that I wait for further updates of the installation file. Nothing more they could do.

@EXPRESSCUSTOMERCARE: Where do we stand at the moment...is there anything else I can try?

    I sent you a PM.

If anyone is wondering what the private messages are for, I am trying to collect logs for this issue from computers that are using the Intel Core M processors (found in the Yoga 3) as it appears that these low-power processors are not working with Garmin Express at the moment. Once I have these logs I will be creating a case to see if we can get this resolved. A new version of Express did get released today. Please make sure that you are attempting to install v3.2.26 which can be downloaded from the link that I posted a few posts back.

  • Same Story with Garmin Express

I am having the same issue as others. Get the same error message when trying to install the latest version of Garmin Express (as in link above).

Spoke with Garmin Support Engineer today for about an hour. He was courteous, and tried a .NET fix, but it failed to help. He ultimately told me that he has seen this problem many times, and that nothing has worked to fix it. He said Garmin had no solution, and that I should try using a different computer.

    I'm using a 1-year old HPTS15 running Windows 8.1 with an AMD A10-5750M APU.

Garmin's got a real problem here!
  • Follow up to Unable to Install - possible success

I just tried gutiersa's method, as described in his post quoted just below. I did just what he said, except that I was using GE 3.2.26. I launched the installation by right clicking the file and choosing Run as Administrator.

GE installed, and I got the messages telling me that some of my Garmin devices needed to be updated - just what I wanted to see!

Thanks gutiersa, and everyone on this forum.
