Garmin Express unable to install Australia & NZ 2015.10 Maps

Purchased a Nuvi 2545 LMT a couple of days ago and finally got around to (trying to) install everything necessary tonight, but with limited success.

I have installed Garmin Express, and registered the product. When Garmin Express was installing it identified some necessary updates. All of those updates have worked except for the map update, when trying to install I get a message almost instantly stating "There was an error installing Full Coverage of Australia and New Zealand 2014.40"

I have searched threads elsewhere on this site for an answer with no luck. I have tried running as administrator but it made no difference. I tried the install quite a number of times.

The thing I do not understand is that I would have thought the product would already come with that map installed. When I log into https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myMapsHome.htm, it tells me that I have "City Navigator Aus & NZ NT 2014.40-HERE - Map+P+HT+PA+LA,Jan 14".

However, when I use the device itself, in the My Maps section, nothing is listed. I do not understand how this can be.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Garmin Express, no difference. I originally tried downloading the maps to both the device and the PC. After I uninstalled and re-installed, I tried to download just to the device, no luck there either, I just keep getting the exact same error as stated above.

I saw on another thread someone asking if another person with a similar problem had not thought to do a backup first, in my case their was no opportunity, as the setup process led me to this point.

Can anyone offer a solution please?


PS Is there any way to change my username? I would prefer to use an alias rather than my email address. There doesn't seem to be an option in settings... :(

    Hey guys - good news - after trying daily for almost a week I gave it another go today - Garmin Express failed but this time Garmin Map Updater (on MacOS X) finally worked :)

    My Nuvi 55LMT is finally updated - nothing changed from my side so I guess they must be starting to sort things out at Garmin's end - you may want to give it a go with Map Updater, hopefully it's your lucky day as well...
  • Damn, I got my hopes up!

    I tried again and the GMU quickly failed. So from the Temp directory I deleted the IMG folder, SID, DB, JCV, ASR & SRX files. Ran GMU again and the download looked to progress further, in 90% range, then crashed again. Now when re-running GMU without deleting the downloaded files it doesn't crash straight away, it appears to be trying to download the remaining files gets to ~70% then drops back to 60%, then to 50% progresses a little more before crashing again.

    Seen that and it's not correct. Neither Garmin Express or Garmin Map Updater successfully downloads and updates the device.

    If it helps anyone, going by the time stamps these are the files GMU is trying to download each time I retry:

    04CMU5TT.ASR
    04CMU5TU.ASR
    D3484110A.sid
    D3487100A.sid
    D3531110A.JCV

    When GMU crashes the D3487100A.sid file gets deleted, the other 4 files remain. A WERInternalMetadata.xml file gets written which then gets deleted when you close the crashed app, which I think is created by Windows upon the app crash. I copied that xml file before closing the app to have a look in it but it doesn't explain much to me.

    Unfortunately, not working.
    Nuvi 3597, Perth area, Full coverage of Australia and NZ maps.

    No matter if I use Garmin Express or the map Updater app.
  • I have finish testing the Australia and New Zealand 2015.10 map update again this morning. I tested this on Windows and Mac. The download completes successfully on both operating systems. Please make sure you are running the latest version of Garmin Express see FAQ: How do I update Garmin Express? If you are updated to the latest version of Garmin Express and still having the same issues we will need to view the log files of Express to see why you are getting this error.

    I will try and private message you to have you gather log files and send them to Garmin. The issue seems wide here with many people having this problem. Response may be slow as there will be lots of data to look over and replying would be to individuals not in this post as the data may be different for each person. I would recommend you contact support since it would be faster to gather information that way and get the issue resolved right away.

    All people who post with this issue may not get a private message because if I gather enough data and find a common problem I will not need additional log files and will try and post again with what I find.

    We have found the issue causing the download failed with the Australia New Zealand 2015.10 mapping. The engineering staff has found the correction and will be getting this fixed shortly. Please try the map update later today as the changes will take some time to go live.

    Home, Windows 8.1 laptop: Garmin Express = failed download, Garmin Map Updater = app crash
    Work, Windows 7 pc: Garmin Express = failed download, Garmin Map Updater = app crash
    Work, OS X 10.9.2 iMac: Garmin Express = progress bar at 100% but keep getting an error "There was a problem communicating with the Garmin servers. Please try again later", Garmin Map Updater progress bar proceeds a tiny amount then does nothing for a long time before erroring "An error occurred which prevented us from completing the update. If this error occurs again please contact Garmin Customer Support." "Additional Information: An error occurred while downloading the new map data."

    I looked at my web log while GMU was trying to download the remaining files - 04CMU5TT.ASR, 04CMU5TU.ASR, D3484110A.sid, D3487100A.sid, D3531110.JCV manifest.xml. I copied those addresses and put them in my web browser. The web browser appears to complete the downloads fine. I copied those files to the temp folder GMU places them in then ran GMU again. GMU crashes when checking then downloading. According to my web log it looks like GMU is now only trying to download the manifest.xml still.

    I've copied all the GMU files to GE's temp directory and GE still fails while trying to get the manifest.xml file too.

    The CoreService log file is saying that the manifest.xml file is invalid as the MD5 sums don't match.

    GE downloads the manifest.xml file from ec.downloadg.garmin.com then downloads it again from ac.downloads.com

    I've tried clearing all temp files, same thing. I've tried disabling Windows Defender, bypassing the web proxy, Home pc, work pc, work mac.

  • I think I'm about done with this. Ready to return my GPS for a refund and not bother with Garmin any more.

    Just tried it and it failed again. Garmin, how do I send my log files to you?
