Problem with Middle East and Europe map

I just purchased the Nuvi 3490 with lifetime Middle East and north Africa Maps. It also includes Europe. I registered my device and the lifetime update card on the garmin site and it does show in the details there. After installing the garmin express my Europe maps updated to 2015.10 but my primary lifetime update map of middle east is showing error. There was a problem activating the map. I have written to garmin twice but they have not replied. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I am sorry for the troubles. Please follow these instructions:

    • Connect your Nuvi 3590 to your computer
    • Replace the GarminDevice.xml in the Garmin folder on your Nuvi 3590 with the attached GarminDevice.xml
    • Open Garmin Express
    • Remove your device and readd it to express again
    • Start the update

Make sure not to disconnect the device during this process or you will need to complete these steps over again as the GarminDevice.xml will revert back to the way that it was. Once the update is complete, you can disconnect the device.

Thanks Jason for the quick reply and solution.
It helped me only to go so far.
Now the Express is downloading the complete map package.
But it is again showing error, albeit a different one.
It showed the message, waiting for other updates to complete....2 minutes remaining. But then error occurred.
This time it says: There was a problem transferring the update.
Please suggest a solution to this error.
    Thanks in advance.

This error usually indicates a communication issue between the computer and the Garmin device. First, make sure that you are logged into an administrator account on your computer. If you are logged in as an administrator and you are still having trouble, check the following:
    • Avoid any USB hubs or extension cable.
      • Avoid connecting to the monitor, keyboards, USB splitters, etc.

    • If this is on a desktop computer, avoid the front USB ports; sometimes they are hubs. We recommend connecting the device to the back of the computer since these ports are usually dedicated ports.
    • If this is on a laptop/notebook, avoid docking stations. If the device was connected to a laptop in a docking station, undock, reboot, and try again.
    • Disconnect all other USB devices (i.e. printers, scanners, external drives, etc.) if the issue continues.

Thanks Jason for your prompt reply. I was using dektop. I removed the the external hard drive and retried. It worked. Thanks for your help.

    Map update problem

I just bought a nuvi 3490 that comes bundled with Middle East and Western Europe maps but during the update it shows "The update is unable to determine where the specific map file would be written." Hope you can help me. Thank you.

    Nuvi 2595 2EV009509
    Software 8.20
    Express 3.2.21.0
Fully updated Windows 8.1 with Explorer 11. HP Omni 27.
Same problem as Elamatha - I have followed all of the previous advice on this forum several times with the same resulting error. (i.e. "Always get an error while updating maps to Middle East & North Africa 2015.10. Already tried deleting re-adding device, Updating software to latest version, updating & Re installing Garmin Express, but all of these attempts failed.") I have attempted this at several times over the last few weeks. Same problem on my Nuvi 200W.

I have fixed the problem on both of your devices. The Nuvi 200W may say that the maps are up to date. Just choose the reinstall option.

If you would like to post your GarminDevice.xml from the Garmin folder on your device I would be happy to fix this for you.

Feedback: Thanks as regards my 2595 - the map version 2015.10 is reported by the device (and I hope it isn't lying). You were correct as regards the Nuvi 200W - I had to select "reinstall". In this case Express lies blatantly however when it says that the 2015.10 maps were installed on it successfully. I see 2014.20 and 2014.30 when I look on the device despite three attempts. The 200W has an external memory card - I am wondering if that is an issue. Thanks for the offer as regards the XML file albertcastro15. I will post the XML, a new experience for me, here's hoping I get it right. It looks like the file is attached.

Jason, apologies, I misunderstood. I now realize you were replying to two people, separate topics. Anyway, I hope my XML file will help in any case as regards my Nuvi 200W. Regards, Alex
