Problem with Middle East and Europe map

I just purchased the Nuvi 3490 with lifetime Middle East and north Africa Maps. It also includes Europe. I registered my device and the lifetime update card on the garmin site and it does show in the details there. After installing the garmin express my Europe maps updated to 2015.10 but my primary lifetime update map of middle east is showing error. There was a problem activating the map. I have written to garmin twice but they have not replied. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
  • Am I correct in thinking Europe is on the card and Middle East on the device? I'd try removing the card then attempt the Middle East map update.
  • I believe someone had a similar problem and posted here a while back, but I cannot recall what the solution was, hopefully someone else can

It looks like there was an account problem that caused the unlock issue. I have corrected this and you should be able to run the update again.

  • I'd try deleting your device from Express then reassociating it, then try the download again.

See this FAQ for how to delete and reassociate http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={8a5f1480-ddf1-11e2-7dd9-000000000000}&kbName=garmin
  • I suspect they don't work over the weekend, I'd wait until Monday or call Product Support

I was able to imitate your nuvi 3490 and Express offered Full Coverage Europe 2015.10 and Middle East and North Africa 2015.10 which is correct. Garmin Express is determining which maps to update based on a file on the device. If Express never offers the City Navigator Europe map update then the file on the device needs to be regenerated. Please delete the device from Garmin Express then use the instructions below.

    1. Open the Garmin Removable Device icon from File Explorer (Win 8).
    2. Open the Garmin folder.
    3. Delete the GarminDevice.xml file.
    4. Disconnect the device from the computer and power cycle it.
    5. Restart the computer

Connect the device and add it back to Garmin Express.

The Updates section should look like this:

If you continue to have troubles. Attach the GarminDevice.xml file from your device to your reply and we should be able to modify it.

  • Nope, still error.

Looking at your screenshot, when you click on 'View errors' what does it say?

I can also see your device is almost full, that could be the issue.
  • Thought you said you'd managed to update the EU map so I was expecting a different error.
  • You'll need to be patient, they pop in quite regularly but aren't here 24/7 ... if you want instant support call Garmin.
