Outstanding issues with 3.2.4

Hi

I'm having all sorts of problems updating to 3.2.4.0 - I get an error that the core update service can't start with a suggestion about permissions. I'm running as administrator so this isn't the problem.

Looking in my temp folder I find log files that imply the issue is with loading a particular dll - legacyio.dll. Comparing with 3.1.9.0 I don't think this dll existed previously.

After the failure to update my install is basically hosed but thankfully the UK Garmin site still downloads 3.1.9.0 so I can reinstall. (Incidentally the US express download site provides a full installer for 3.2.4.0 - I've tried clean installing using this and it doesn't work either).

Is anyone else hitting similar issues?

I have followed a bunch of advice found elsewhere on support forums about running the .NET repair tool etc and this hasn't helped at all. It installs OK on my work PC so it would appear to be configuration specific - I just need to pin down what's causing the failure on my home PC.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I've now tried 3.2.4, 3.2.5, and 3.2.7 all with the same error regarding legacio.dll:

I am a professional software developer - my home PC is in good condition with all updates religiously applied. I have sent full logs to you you have not given a single bit of advice that is based on the contents of those logs.

I will not be buying a new PC to resolve this.
I will not be taking a day off work in the hope that I can get through to your permanently busy phone support lines.

If you are confident that phone support can resolve this then you should be able to give the same options and possible solutions to me either via this thread or via the email conversation that you're currently not responding to.

I was asked for logs - what have you done with them?
  • That dll should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Core Update Service, I assume you've checked and it is there?

If not pm me your e mail and I'll send you the file, it may be that placing it there it will resolve your particular issue.

    Yes it's there.

It is NOT there in 3.1.9.0.

I assume it's a new software element introduced in 3.2.x which is dependent upon some other components that are not being shipped in the install kit - hence why it works on some (most?) systems but not on mine. Either that or some other bit of Garmin software that I don't need as a 901XT user contains it.

I've installed the latest MS C runtimes and, as I said, updated and run the .NET framework repair tools but this hasn't changed anything.

    Thanks for the offer though.

I called the support number, according to the prompts... there is no extension for software help. Besides isn't this supposed to be a support forum? All my information and logs were dealt with through here...

Do you have a direct link for Garmin Express V 3.2.7.0?

I have full access, even a super admin account for installs if needed on Win 7 64.

Versions 3.2.4.0 and 3.2.5.0 all end in the same error with either standard admin or elevated super admin account

There is a line that says Shutting down, exit code: 0x80070643 which seems to relate to .NET. I found a fixit from Microsoft for this error and ran it with no change, as well as repaired then reinstalled .NET which also did nothing.
  • Right now I'm really irritated!

I got home this evening and the installation of 3.1.9.0 that I have at least always been able to roll back to FORCED ME TO UPGRADE TO 3.2.7.0 - which failed.

I'm now dead in the water.

    This is beyond a joke.
  • Some research at work this morning shows that 3.2.7.0 defaults to auto applying updates to Express and I've found the config file that stores this setting.

I'm hoping that maybe this is just the case that by trying and failing to install 3.2.7.0 it has stored the auto-update setting which is then being picked up when I reinstall 3.1.9.0. Hopefully by clearing this setting I'll be able to reinstall 3.1.9.0 and stick with it.
  • Back to being really irritated.

The installer is taking no notice of the config file and is forcing me to update.

The only way I can now use Express is by hoping that it transfers data before insisting that it needs to be updated - and then killing the process in the task manager.

PLEASE COULD SOMEONE FROM SUPPORT LOOK AT THIS FOR ME!
  • Anyone from Garmin care to comment?

I notice another thread where people who are being forced to take the 3.2.7.0 update are having issues.
