Outstanding issues with 3.2.4

Hi

I'm having all sorts of problems updating to 3.2.4.0 - I get an error that the core update service can't start with a suggestion about permissions. I'm running as administrator so this isn't the problem.

Looking in my temp folder I find log files that imply the issue is with loading a particular dll - legacyio.dll. Comparing with 3.1.9.0 I don't think this dll existed previously.

After the failure to update my install is basically hosed but thankfully the UK Garmin site still downloads 3.1.9.0 so I can reinstall. (Incidentally the US express download site provides a full installer for 3.2.4.0 - I've tried clean installing using this and it doesn't work either).

Is anyone else hitting similar issues?

I have followed a bunch of advice found elsewhere on support forums about running the .NET repair tool etc and this hasn't helped at all. It installs OK on my work PC so it would appear to be configuration specific - I just need to pin down what's causing the failure on my home PC.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
  • Didn't work for me either.
  • Really very disappointed at the lack of response to this issue.

I sent my log files as requested and the only response I got was an email asking me to do the basic standard .NET fix and the Windows Installer 4.5 thing. I've replied to emails from support and sent further requests for help and have received nothing back.

I still can't get the latest versions of Express working on my PC and suggesting that the solution is for me to buy a new one is plain stupid.

Please can someone contact me about the results of looking at my installer logs?

I was hoping a resolution could be found as well... to date I have never even gotten a reply since I sent my logs to garmin
I like the hardware, but support sucks to be honest. 7 pages since the OP started the thread....
  • Maybe ranting is the way to go.

There's at least 2 of us who have taken your advice and followed the suggested route and are now being totally ignored.
  • Well I hope in due course the Express team will come back to you, at least you've provided logs etc which should help. The team are very active here and resolve most issues so I'm sure you'll get a response soon.

Same problem ... still no fix?
Would someone from GARMIN please let us know what is happening, Phone support is ringing off the hook so I guess everyone has the problem..

I hope you are right, it's been just over 2 weeks since I submitted my logs...and have heard nothing back.

Can you clarify the details of the problem that you have?

I'm keen to keep this thread focused on Windows7 Garmin Express 3.2.x failing to install on machines that were happily running 3.1.9
  • Are you still getting the same error about Core Update Service? If so you might want to try a different way to resolve it than the one posted earlier. Try this:

In the “Search Programs and Files” box on your computer (Win7) type in "services.msc" without the quotes. Open Services.msc and in the Services window scroll down until you see Garmin Core Update Service (It may be Garmin Core Upd...). Look in the startup type column and make sure it says "Manual" or "Automatic". It probably won’t so if not right click it and choose "Properties". In the properties window go to the "General" tab. In the General tab, you should see "Startup Type" with a drop down arrow next to it. Click the drop down arrow and choose either "Manual" or "Automatic", do not choose "Automatic (delayed start)”. At the bottom of the window click the "Apply" button, and then the "Okay" button. Restart Garmin Express and see if Express now runs.

Mine is a new install, using 3.2.5.0. and the previous version...Garmin Core Update Service doesn't show till halfway through the install.. changing the startup type to either Automatic or Manual doesn't work for me... still says Garmin Update Service Failed
