Outstanding issues with 3.2.4

Hi

I'm having all sorts of problems updating to 3.2.4.0 - I get an error that the core update service can't start with a suggestion about permissions. I'm running as administrator so this isn't the problem.

Looking in my temp folder I find log files that imply the issue is with loading a particular dll - legacyio.dll. Comparing with 3.1.9.0 I don't think this dll existed previously.

After the failure to update my install is basically hosed but thankfully the UK Garmin site still downloads 3.1.9.0 so I can reinstall. (Incidentally the US express download site provides a full installer for 3.2.4.0 - I've tried clean installing using this and it doesn't work either).

Is anyone else hitting similar issues?

I have followed a bunch of advice found elsewhere on support forums about running the .NET repair tool etc and this hasn't helped at all. It installs OK on my work PC so it would appear to be configuration specific - I just need to pin down what's causing the failure on my home PC.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Has a solution been found yet? I submitted the log file from Garmin Express Log Collector last week...

I also sent log files and received an email telling me to repair .NET and to look at the Windows Installer 4.5 issue (which I don't think applies to Windows7). I replied to that email and have heard nothing since.

IMACLONE : did you look at the log files (CoreServiceLog_xxxxxx.txt)? Did they mention legacyio.dll at all?

I haven't gotten an email from garmin as of yet. All my windows 7 machines windows installer is at Version 5.0.7601.17514
No mention of legacyio.dll that I could see... it looks like mine is bombing out at "core update service, string may be full"

A new version of Garmin Express has just been released. Version 3.2.5 is now available. Please see if this can help help resolve your issue.
Try installing the latest version of Express which can be found here:Garmin Express 3.2.5 download.

Thanks for the heads up about 3.2.5
I ran it, it still fails to install. I noted I have .NET 4.5.1 so I installed .NET 4.5.2 and still get the same error "Service 'Garmin Core Update Service' (Garmin Core Update Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"

This only happens on my main laptop, Win 7 64.
Works on my desktop Win 7 32, works on spare laptop Win 7 32 and also my netbook Win 7 Starter. And just right now installed to my desktop at work, Win 7 64.
  • Have you tried right clicking the exe file and selecting 'Run as administrator'?

Yes of course I tried right click run as admin, I even assumed full rights to the pc even though I am administrator.. still no luck. In the log it's still having issues with .NET
  • Sadly it's a no from me too - exactly the same errors as 3.2.4.0

    If it's a .net issue try the repair tool, see this FAQ https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={c9ab5190-3cd7-11e3-f27b-000000000000}

    Sorry, let me clarify..
Windows error logs show that the application is .Net runtime but source is shown as Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Core Update Service\Garmin.Cartography.MapUpdate.CoreService.exe
in the the Garmin Express Log Collector... C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Core Update Service' is denied.

I uninstalled all versions of .net, rebooted and installed a fresh copy of .net 4.5.1 through windows update..ran the Garmin Express 3.2.5 from the link above, and get the "Service 'Garmin Core Update Service' (Garmin Core Update Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"
