Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Garmin Forerunner 205.

Downloaded and installed Express.
Click 'Get Started'. Messages displays; Device not supported. Garmin Express does not support this device. Please use Garmin Map Updater. With a button to download and install the map updater.
This does not work, message displays saying the 205 does not support maps.
Cancel back to Garmin Express - Device not found screen displays with try again button. Then you can just go round and round in circles......
  • I am sorry for the issue with the 205 but at this time the Forerunner 205 is not supported with Garmin Express. We are looking to have this device added and working sometime this month.

"Device working sometime this month"...in March. It's May. I've just purchased a 620 for running...but the forerunner 305 is still my only option on the bike. I can't switch to Connect Modern...because then I won't be able to upload my bike rides. What's the status on supporting legacy devices?
  • DMSOWDER -

That post was made about two hours before your post (May 9th), not in March. Support for the Forerunner 205/305 will be coming in our mid-May release of Garmin Express which will allow you to upload to Connect through Express.

Forerunner 205 not yet supported by Garmin Express. Have you news? Thank you

The latest version of Garmin Express 3.2.16 is compatible with the Forerunner 205.

Really? It's now August, and Express won't work with my 205 on my Windows 7 machine. Express won't recognize the forerunner 205 at all. Windows can see it, but can't interpret what type of device it is. It seems to charge just fine, and in the Device Manager in Windows I can see various bits of metadata, so I think the connection is okay.

Will Garmin Express be compatible with the 201? Please say yes. I still use my 201 and I love it.

Hey, fixed it myself! I updated the latest USB drivers for Win7 (http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=591), and once they were installed, Windows recognized the 205, and Express popped up and linked to it...

...ah, crap. It's just getting errors on each activity file as it tried to sync. ...but now that that long and painful process is done, it says there's "a problem with the Garmin servers" (and doesn't mention the actual data on the 205), so I'll reboot (since I just installed the drivers) and try back later. At any rate, JLabonte, you might try the driver update route too. If this bombs out for me I'll probably end up posting again.

I was hoping to transfer my Nuvi 1490 favorites to my new Nuvi 2797LMT. It says to install Garmin Express (done)... but it can't "find" my old Nuvi 1490. It can't find my new 2797LMT. To test that it could find ANYTHING, I connected my Garmin 510 and it FOUND THAT.

I'm stuck; how do I get Garmin Express to find my devices? Failing that, how can I transfer my favorites from the 1490 to the 2797LMT?
  • Please see the information in the FAQ's: How do I transfer Favorites and Routes from one device to another using Garmin Express? and Why is my Garmin mass storage or MTP device not communicating with Garmin Windows Applications?
