Transferring data from 910XT to Garmin Express "unable to pair"

I'm new to all this, but seem to read various similar problems throughout the forums.
I don't know if I have a problem with my forerunner 910XT or Garmin Express.
I tried for the first time to download my workouts to GE (newly installed, so up-to-date) via ANT+ stick.
Stick plugged in, recognises the device, device says "transferring data", GE says pairing failed/unable to pair - tells me to ensure pairing is enabled, device is stuck. Tried resetting device but same thing happens each time.
I've been through the menus & checked that pairing is enabled, so what's going wrong?!
Anyone had any similar problems, or anyone from Garmin or the wider world out there offer me any solutions?!
I've (in sad desperation) deleted all my old workouts more than 1 month old (have never downloaded them before eek) to see if it was a volume issue, but that hasn't worked either.

:(
HELP!
thanks...

I am sorry that you are having trouble syncing your data. If the activity is showing on the watch but is not uploading to Garmin Connect, you can try setting the watch to transfer all activities:
    • Press MODE (to get to Main Menu)
    • Select History
    • Select Transfer All

If you are seeing an error in Garmin Express when trying to sync the activity, make sure that Garmin Express is up to date by following the instructions in this FAQ: How do I update Garmin Express?

If this does not solve the problem, remove the device from Garmin Express, restart the computer and then pair the device with Express again. To remove the device from Express, follow the instruction here: How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

This level of quality just isn't acceptable for a company the size of Garmin! I own a 910xt (£300+), a 810 (£350+) and Vector pedals (£1K) - all of these products are great and work 95% of the time as they should, but how can a company the size of Garmin not get the Garmin Express correct before releasing it!

I have uninstalled express on my mac three times, and then 'transfer all' my workouts from my watch (that takes 2 hours)

The 910 is not that old - please make it work with your software! It's unacceptable! I dont believe that this software hasn't been through QA and UAT before being released! Some people would think that you are aren't fixing this issue so that 910 users get frustrated and buy a 920!

I have clicked the above "How do I update my Garmin Express" link above and using the instructions for my Mac ( a new Macbook Air ) I have gone to to the 'about' to see if there is a new version .... typical Garmin, for the length it has taken me to type this forum post it still has the 'Checking for updates' wheel loading! It's just no where near close to being good enough!

If there was another company that offered similar hardware I would buy their products in a heart beat!!!

Is there any way of being able to upload workouts from our 910 using the old method please?
