Garmin Express 3.1.7.0 - Annoying Windows XP End Of Life Notification - please remove

Dear Garmin,

I would like to ask you to either remove this annoying End-of-Life Windows XP Notification that started cropping up earlier this week in Garmin Express or alternatively add 'Acknowledge' button so the message can disappear completely.

I understand that current version of Garmin Express I use (3.1.7.0) is still fully compatible and supported under Windows XP, I therefore don't see any reason why such notification needs to be displayed permanently on my system.

It's entirely up to me what I intend to do with this situation in the longer term, I merely ask you not to join the 'Upgrade your OS now' bandwagon as everyone else seemingly does.

Your sincerely,

...

  • I appreciate that this is 'off thread' but it's interesting that you suggest upgrading to Windows 7 (which is already an outdated OS) in preference to the bag of worms known as Windows 8.

According to Google, XP users still represent 30% of the market (estimated at 1.4 billion installations), so around 420,000,000 users at this time.

A couple of intersting links here :

    Back 'on thread'.

Still waiting to hear from Garmin regarding stable, final XP version of Express. As has been mentioned previously, all we ask for is the opportunity to continue updating 'lifetime' maps to our devices irrespective of the OS platform on our computers. Please don't bite the hand that feeds you.
  • Nothing special. Just connect your 3590 to your PC and it should appear as a MTP device. Load Express from here http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html and it should see your 3590.

If you still want though to use XP see this link, is this the error you're getting http://windowsperformance.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/error-during-installation-of-garmin.html
  • And yet we're now on 3.2.9.0 release (updates seem to be released almost on the weekly basis) and this message is still there.

Is this that hard to listen what customers are saying / asking for? And actually do something about it? I'm speechless...

On that note: please ensure that your other thread about release notes is updated in line with releases themselves, EXPRESSCUSTOMERCARE.

    It is :)

As for the 'end of life note' I'd expect that to remain there until a release is issued that doesn't support XP, at which point just like with Basecamp a final 'XP compatible' Express would be released. Just because you've seen the note doesn't mean that all those who might be affected have seen it, so surely it makes sense for it to remain for now?
  • Well, not that I am picky or something but we're on 3.2.13.0 and release notes thread lags behind again ;)

Your above explanation seems a bit convoluted... Isn't it just easier to remove this message - does not see any purpose of it apart from making me and others annoyed. I have not seen such notifications in BaseCamp as well...
  • That's because it's on the Basecamp download page. Release notes for Express 3.2.13 were there when I looked.
  • So where is the FINAL RELEASE for WINDOWS XP? or am I totally screwed with doing anything to update my GPS because Garmin decided to throw all XP users to the curb.

Funny thing... Microsoft is no longer supporting XP but my computer with XP works just fine
I have a computer full of programs that used to work on XP and that still work on XP

Except Garmin Express. The rug has totally been pulled out from under us.
  • Garmin Express still works with XP, the warning is simply that at the moment.

Just to clarify, when Garmin say "moving forward" it's in order to rule out time travel.

As a XP user who's current computer not strong enough for upgrade and don't want to spend the extra bucks for new computer. Saying thanks for your input. The reason people like XP is because it works! As you mentioned one should make sure not getting automatic updates. I'm at version 3.2.13 and went back to make sure to turn off auto updates. Have to click onto the little "round gear icon" to see version info and the check boxes for update on/off. Will there be some announcement for last compatable XP version?
