Can't pair 610 to Garmin Express

I have installed Garmin Express (after uninstalling Ant Agent and Communicator). When trying to pair my 610 I get to the point where the watch asks me to confirm the pairing, which I do. But Express just says "Sorry, pairing could not be completed" and that I should allow syncing on the watch (!?). Meanwhile the watch has gone to a 'transferring data' screen which stays up for a couple of minutes.

I've gone around this merry go round a few times now. I'm giving up and am going back to Ant Agent. Don't know why they had to "fix" what wasn't actually broken.
  • Tried the same with my 610 - what an epic mess! I was lucky to eventually be able return to ANT Agent. Such poor documentation, absence of real trouble-shooting, ... rarely have witness so low-level installation support.

I have the exact problems with my 910XT. Any help on this? Anyone?

Exactly the same issue with Forerunner 405 and 410, anybody please help!
  • 610 (and possibly 910XT): Make sure initial pairing is set to "on". On the 610, that is : Menu > Setup > System > Data Transfer > Initial Pairing

    405CX & 410 - the notice on GarminConnect said Express wasn't ready for 305, 405CX & 410 "just yet".

Thanks Mchunnymonster, but I already did that that, actually several times. Anyway, as I understand things all that step does is trigger the initial pairing. My issue (and others', clearly) is that something goes wrong during the pairing. Note in my post that the watch does actually ask me to confirm the pairing, after which things get borked.

I guess it doesn't really matter, as long as they don't disable Ant Agent, or at least not until after Express is working.
  • Do you still have ANTAgent running? If so you need to stop it running - otherwise GarminExpress is never going to be able to get control of the ANT stick to be able to complete the pairing...
  • got similar problem - since last Sunday I can't download any of my activities any more but I didn't even try GE yet... checked pairing and it's all good, laptop finds my device and just says that there aren't any new activities. very frustrating!! any sug?gestions please

Thanks again. As I wrote in my first post, I installed Express after uninstalling ANT Agent, so I imagine it was no longer running...

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I have contacted Garmin support and they recommended I uninstall Garmin Express, reboot, reinstall and retry...Like everyone else I got the same results. I'm ready to reinstall Ant agent and go back to the "good old days"
  • @Palmerrmpv: this is not really a solution, but for what it's worth a couple of days ago I gave Express another go. Same issue as before - watch stuck on 'transferring' and Express fraudulently complaining about lack of pairing authorisation. I quit and restarted Express, and when it restarted it was, miraculously, connected to my 610 - no further pairing required.

However, even though it has connected, I'm not convinced it is an improvement. Express does intermittently sync my new activities, but not reliably. Half the time it says "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect", and I have to manually trigger the sync 2 or 3 times before it works. I may still go back to ANT Agent, not sure yet.
