Can't pair 610 to Garmin Express

I have installed Garmin Express (after uninstalling Ant Agent and Communicator). When trying to pair my 610 I get to the point where the watch asks me to confirm the pairing, which I do. But Express just says "Sorry, pairing could not be completed" and that I should allow syncing on the watch (!?). Meanwhile the watch has gone to a 'transferring data' screen which stays up for a couple of minutes.

I've gone around this merry go round a few times now. I'm giving up and am going back to Ant Agent. Don't know why they had to "fix" what wasn't actually broken.

Very frustrating. I have removed the old software, installed Express, uninstalled Express. Cannot find anything helpful on website.
All I get is...... unable to pair..... and Garmin 410 says transferring data.... to where I have no idea.
Any new help would sure be appreciated.

Once you get Express working with your 610 or 910XT, have you tried to push data from Garmin Connect to your watch? For example, a planned workout. With ANT+, you just selected the workout in Garmin Connect and select the send to device link. Nothing happens thus far in the several attempts I've tried for my wife's 610. Ended up just manually entering it from the watch as a custom workout, real pain.

For those getting the "device is not connected" message on a 610 / Mac combo, at least, the easy way to get them talking is remover the 610 from Express, say you want to keep it associated with Connect when it gives you the choice. Once done, ensure new pairing is enabled on the 610 then add it back to Express. This at least connects Express to the 610 and works fine for getting runs from the watch to Connect. I haven't tried sending from Connect to the 610 yet, though, other than the time zone update (my 610 already had the 2.90 update). The Mac version for Express was 3.0.7 as of yesterday.

This functionality isn't supported with Garmin Express right now. Garmin has confirmed this, and the Garmin Connect upload dialog has a Helpful Tip button that displays the following text...

If you want to push data to your 610 or 910XT, you need to use the ANT Agent and Communicator Plugin. If you are going to use those packages, you should uninstall Garmin Express. The _only_ reason you should have both installed is if you own a device that requires Garmin Express (VivoFit?) and a device that is not fully compatible with Garmin Express (610, 910XT, ...).

  • Same issue here with the forerunner 410. I never had ANT Agent installed on this computer so I know that wasn't causing a conflict. After reading this thread I uninstalled Express and installed ANT Agent, upload to Garmin Connect no problem, except it says I ran 1.51 miles in 4:02, and 1.84 miles in 4:05, hmm, oh well, at least the data is off the watch, maybe you'll see me at the summer olympics with those times.

same issue 410 on 2 different computers it finds the device but never pairs although it says transferring data on the watch i've uninstalled ant agent on 1 pc and tried then started from scratch on another with no garmin software but the result is always the same - its not the watch as it works perfectly fine on connect its seems to be a fault with garmin express

Can only connect to "upload' rides with "Classic View" with my Edge 705 .-Interesting ,when i click on "Garmin Express" my device is "connected" ,
but not on the web site "Garmin Connect".Maybe certain devices are not compatible?
  • I have experienced exactly the same problems with Express. I am using Express version 3.8.1.0 and whilst it locates my 410 it then cannot pair with it. I cannot believe that connect has been tested properly with the 410. I have just installed the ANT Agent 2.3.4 and it paired immediately so this rules out my 410 and the USB stick and points a big finger at Express being the problem area to focus on be it the software or some kind of version incompatibility. I decided to use the myDashboard to upload firmware updates to my 410 via the ANT Agent. This worked and my 410 is now at Software Version 2.30 (upgraded from 2.20). I tried Express again and it didn't work. As a last resort I reinstalled Express - this didn't work either, so Express got uninstalled for good.
  • +1 to this: exactly same problem, Forerunner 405, had to remove Express and re-install ANT Agent, which worked a treat straight away. NOT a good user experience... :(
  • After a master reset of my 610. Express works for me.
