7.27 and Vivosmart 4

7.27 broke the ability to sync Vivosmart 4 via USB to Express on W10.
I have 2 family members that do not use cell phones, so no Connect mobile app, they use GE.
The other family member uses Connect mobile which syncs as usual.

GE shows it is syncing, BUT if you go into Connect web, nothing has synced that is on the device.
This has been since they updated to 7.27, 8-10 days ago. Also you can't see the VS4 folders, but it charges.
I backleveled to 7.26 and everything works. Folders upen and devices actually sync.

  • Thanks for that - very timely as I'm conveying all the above to Product Team who (now hopefully) at last started investigating.

  • How did you get the older version of Garmin Express back? I let the new version install September 17th - now Garmin Express shows I synced (but it says its an ARYA4.0 with my Vivosmart serial number).  Garmin Express and Garmin Connect are no longer syncing together. Garmin Connect is looking for my Vivsmart but Garmin Express shows it as a ARYA.  I tried contacting Garmin help -- they were anything but. They said they do not go "back" to previous versions of Express.  This latest version 7.27 has rendered my Vivosmart useless. I am so angry. I have been a loyal Garmin user for years. We have several Garmin GPS units and this is my third fitness wearable. Not happy Garmin -- you need to fix this. It is abundantly obvious your update has made a lot of devices obsolete.

  • I did a re-install and it fixed nothing

  • Nothing Garmin says to try works. Seems to be purposefully obsoleted all our Vivosmart4 wearables.

  • I've been a loyal Garmin customer for ten years but I have learned that Garmin Express is often flakey. I've got two computers, my desktop I let update, my laptop I only update Garmin and other software when I am happy with that release. For your particular problem just do a search for Garmin Express and you will find sites with previous versions. I'm not going to mention them here for obvious reasons.

  • Nah, I suppose it can be much better explained by Hanlon's razor principle... ;-)

Let's await updated version patiently, and in the meantime do use iOS/Android Connect apps to sync watch data via BT (these work fine).

  • LOL, but in reality it is sloppy programming and then sloppy QA testing BEFORE releasing the update. This is what Garmin is infamous for -  let the users test - they will find problems, then shuffle around for a couple of weeks, months, etc before doiing anything about it.

If you want it solved I showed you how to do it in my opening post. If you don't want to do it, that's on you.

  • Ah, it's not me who has a problem per se, but other worthy contributors in this thread.

Also, v7.26 is not a goer for me because of this little problem introduced in there:

    https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/epix-2/377545/garmin-express-resets-erases-glances-after-plug-in

...so clearly: one step forward, two step backwards... Or vice-versa? ;-)

Will sit that one out (especially as workaround are available) as I'm sure this bug will eventually get addressed.

  • That thread was started over a year ago, and they released 7.27 fo fix it this month. But threy traded one bug for another. Go ahead and wait, but I would look at versions older that 7.26, They are all out there - I wonder why? Because of things like this. Garmin will not provide you with s rollback, but other sources will.
