7.27 and Vivosmart 4

7.27 broke the ability to sync Vivosmart 4 via USB to Express on W10.
I have 2 family members that do not use cell phones, so no Connect mobile app, they use GE.
The other family member uses Connect mobile which syncs as usual.

GE shows it is syncing, BUT if you go into Connect web, nothing has synced that is on the device.
This has been since they updated to 7.27, 8-10 days ago. Also you can't see the VS4 folders, but it charges.
I backleveled to 7.26 and everything works. Folders upen and devices actually sync.

  • Good find - same here with my wife's Vivosmart 4 as well - sync to Garmin Connect stopped from the moment v7.27 has been released.

    Interestingly, I spotted that I'm being notified by GE/Windows that it successfully synced to 'Garmin Arya v5.40' instead of 'Vivosmart 4' as it used to be in the past  - so I gather something's not quite right within recent GE release.

    My Epix watch syncs correctly though.

  • Yes, I seen that "Arya" but I figured it was some secret code like the hexadecimal number after the GE verson number.. 

    All my other devices function correctly, even the old Edge 500 that is older than the VS4.... Now I just have to remember NOT to click on the prompt to update GE that always comes up when I use it.

  • ...needless to add that sync via Bluetooth & phone / Connect app does work correctly.

  • Yep, as I stated in the first post.

    I hope they don't kill the VS4, my 3 people hate the VS5 (it got bigger and lost the Baro sensor).

  • ...so I reached Product Support and flagged this little problem.

    The advice I got was just to reinstall GE...!

    As I'm not very well minded to do so for number of reasons (also, as I don't believe that botched installation is the root of the problem...), I will sit it out until the next GE release - assume (perhaps incorrectly) that new installation will do the same trick...

  • Well it works fine under 7.26, aa I said, but of course Garmin won't ask you to backlevel because they don't have those available.. And in my opinion, they just don't care = support is a joke it's always "reinstall" or "reset to factory" and call us so we can ignore the problem for another couple of weeks.

  • I will contact them myself tomorrow after a little playing. It doesn't work for either vivosmart 4 or vivosmart 5 via usb.

  • ...I got some traction with Product Support now (or so I hope) and just submitted my GE data for them to plough through.

    So there's glimmer of hope...

  • I had a chance to play with my vivosmart 4 today to see what I could learn. Like many people I sync with both USB/express 7.27 but I am also linked to my Android phone. Same errors as others have reported. I reset the watch and now it works under 7.27 but reports Arya 5.40 and no folders. OK so that worked, now to look at the connection to the phone. Resetting the watch breaks the connection so reconnect, now I'm syncing properly to the phone. Guess what, of course now I'm back to where I was before and it doesn't work with express 7.27. So it's an either/or problem right now, 7.27 is definitely broken.
