  • Hi,

    was in the same situation.

The following steps has worked for me to get the app back on my watch:

Remove the watch from "garmin connect" app via mobile phone

Then add the watch again via mobile phone

Then you see the option  "finish setup" and you can select the ecg app installation

  • So the next question then is, can we please see a release of this quickly as this problem is very annoying.

What's the ETA of the release of express 7.27?

  • I contacted Garmin support about the ECG app being missing, and they were very helpful. You need to use Garmin Connect on your phone. Go to the area where your devices are. Find your watch, remove the watch and then add it back again. Reinstall the ECG app from there. The problem is definitely with Garmin Express! Don't sync, or charge your watch with Express until the next update or you will continue to have this problem. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!

  • Someone redirect me to this exchange, as I reported the same issue.
    Below was my anxious alert.

HUGE PROBLEM WITH UPDATES (watch or Garmin Express?)

I don't know if it's related to an update to my Epix watch or Garmin Express, but it suddenly lost all my activities, as well as all my watch face and watch app settings (which are paid).

It happened once: no more settings for my activities (and I have about ten activities for which I had configured many screens, including purchased apps: EVERYTHING lost), or for my watch faces (the standard ones and some purchased ones).

I patiently redid everything manually. It took me 3 hours to get everything back to normal. Then, from the watch, I made a manual backup. I even made several on different days.

And today, I connected it to the PC and Garmin Express, and again, EVERYTHING lost!!! No more configured activities (no more favorites) and no more data fields screen (apps installed on the watch).
    It's just unbearable.

So, from the watch, I tried to recover a backup. But from the watch, there's no option to recover a backup, only to create one.

So, I looked on Garmin Express and found a backup. But only one backup and not the most recent one, even though I'm 100% sure I've created several backups from the watch. Where are the other backups? Why don't they appear in the list?

So, I tried restoring the only available backup.
    The process went smoothly.

But the result is super IMPERFECT:
    - I found my favorite activities again; the Garmin screen settings seem to have been correctly restored. At least, that's something. But not everything has been restored; for example, the custom activity color has been reset to the default color.
    - However, all the data field settings have been lost!! I'll have to redo everything with Connect IQ on my phone: at least an hour of work because I have precise settings.
    - No more custom watch faces, and the watch faces I purchased and finely configured have simply been uninstalled from the watch!! I'll have to reinstall them with Connect IQ and reset everything.
    - And I noticed that some of the Epix watch settings themselves also need to be redone.

    3 questions:

    1. Is this a known bug? I've been using my watch for 2 years and this is the first time this has happened. So it's related to one of the recent updates. Any solutions soon?

    2. Why are my watch backups disappearing, but only one appears in the backups to be restored?

    3. When Garmin improves the restore process so that ALL watch settings are restored, as well as ALL THIRD-PARTY WATCH SCREEN SETTINGS AND DATA FIELDS.

I'll patiently reset my watch settings, both on the watch and on Connect IQ :-(

The good thing: I discover I am not alone with this crazy issue.
The bad news: the problem is still there as it happened today again to me!!

    Thanks for your advise.

I will still use GE to click on button "Garmin Connect" which allows to connect via Chrome w/o typing password each time.

But I will stop using Garmin Express with the watch connected !!!

Hours of work to rebuild all complex settings I have for numerous activities on my watch and have to it again.
    Twice is enough!!

  • I know there is a bug in express 7.26 that is causing a lot (everyone) like me to have their devices reset when they connect to express and install updates. For me, updates have been almost daily. In another post Garmin-Laurie said that Garmin had identified the bug and that it should be corrected by the next release, but no info about when that will be.

So, I was wondering if we could get an update as to an at least projected time for the bug to be fixed and what to do in the meantime. Perhaps Garmin could give a little guidance. I know backing up is good, but several people say that their backups were gone, too.

And, just as an aside, I got a new watch and went through the whole thing to set it up just the way I wanted and find out about all the neat features. Literally hours of work to get it just right and that all got wiped.

  • at least projected time for the bug to be fixed

Garmin doesn't typically announce any release dates for such things. Could be tomorrow or could be in a month. Who knows?

what to do in the meantime.

I have an epix (Gen 2). as many have stated, after I synched with GE 7.26, all the settings were wiped. I kept notes of all my settings and restored them all manually without using the backup/restore method. I then uninstalled GE 7.26, found a copy of 7.25 on Uptodown, and installed that version. No issues ever since.

  • Every time I connect my watch to the PC and Garmin Connect, my preferred activity settings get reset. It’s incredibly annoying, and I can’t understand how Garmin could let such a bug slip through

This happens on my Tactix 7 watch and on my wife’s Fenix 7S as well.

  • Version 7.27 released today - Garmin Express Release Notes - Garmin Express Windows - Mac/Windows Software - Garmin Forums

Installed and synced my Epix (Gen 2) with no issues.
