Fenix 7 SS (SW v22.06) semi-reset over night

I have a Fenix 7 SS on SW 22.06. During sleep on the night between 13 and 14 of August 2025 (today), my watch made a semi-reset by it self.

- All favorite sports are gone (when pressing start/stop button).

- Custom menues/folders are gone (I had for e.g. weather, health status, latest sports etc.)

- Morning report is gone.*

*The morning report did not show this morning (14/8) besides the image of when you have a race day (which I have today). All other morning report information didn't come.
I can now find the morning report options under "appearance" on the watch but only options are now: "Recovery", "Min. with high intensity", "Calendar" and "Weather".. sleep info, HRV etc are gone!
On my Garmin Connect app, I can still see the whole list available and adding/removing and then sync. does not help.

I have tried to restore the watch using the only back-up that was available (from late 13/8), but nothing helps.
I did a map update via PC the other day (Tuesday), but I think it was golf courses for the US, so not related.

What is going on?

  • Update August 29, 2025:

Our engineers have identified the cause of an issue that may cause the watch settings to be reset after syncing with Garmin Express. This should be resolved with a software update to Garmin Express, this update is expected mid September.

  • Same thing on mine and mine wife's (both f7X SS) - after connecting to PC to update maps I noticed that favorite sports list is empty and all folders in glances menu also have been reset do defaults

This happened to me today and it's been a bug that Garmin have been sitting on for about a couple of years now.

I've synced the Fenix 7 with Garmin Express after the semi reset. That sync deleted all widget folders and then reshuffled widgets in an apparently random order.

I've then attempted to restore configuration from the nightly backup which is then reset my Garmin Wallet and logged me out of all of the apps that I was currently logged into on the watch.

It's pretty mind-boggling as to how long this Garmin Explore widget folder destruction bug has been around for given the incredibly frustrating experience that comes from it.

Our engineers have identified the cause of an issue that may cause the watch settings to be reset after syncing with Garmin Express. This should be resolved with a software update to Garmin Express, this update is expected mid September.

Bravo. Looking forward to the fix.

  • No update to Garmin Express til mid September, are you having a laugh!! maybe bring it forward a bit given how many devices this impacts (my Fenix 6X was reset, with wallet, HRV status (3 weeks to redefine a baseline!)

  • Fixes for bugs like this need to be properly tested in order to prevent further unexpected and unwanted issues. If the fix had already been tested, I'm sure they would've released it by now. Since they need another two weeks, they probably identified the issue, but need time to go from development to testing and finally release.

While we'd all like a solution as soon as possible, I'd rather have a proper fix than a rushed one that introduces a host of new issues.

  • Yes they do need to be fully tested fully agree on that to ensure no other (worse) issues arise as a consequence, but in the meantime if its not possible to push through an update in advance, then you also communicate properly to all users the issue and pull the version of GE thats caused many more cases of the reported corruption.

  • I lost my apps list on both a fenix 6 and a fenix 7 after updating my watches with the latest Garmin Express last night.  Garmin should have pulled the Express update after the issue was reported if they could not fix it in a timely manner.

  • yeahh very bad..hope you test before releasing this kind of software..I'm felling aka we are beta testers should not be like this...can we have a specific date ?
