Nuvi 1340 error - No map data available....

Have a Nuvi 1340 Satnav. Garmin emailed to ask me to log in to my account, so did so. Asked me to update maps on Garmin Express, showed not enough memory so introduced a new micro SD card. reinstalled maps, Garmin Express tells me it's done, but now getting an error message on device: Can't unlock maps or No map data available, Nuvi can't be used without. Tried the process several times, Garmin support only offer a discount on a new device due to the age of the existing device. Very annoying as it was working fine before they asked me to log in !! I thought I was doing the right thing ; Can anyone help ? Thanks....Simon

    Thanks - it is FAT32 but seems to be write protected ?? Won't allow a "quick format". Showing storage as 29.5GB. Think I need to find another card ?

    Thanks, have tried this and again after a hard reboot of device.....Just can't seem to get the map on to the device, in a readable format ??

    The 1340 uses a microSD card which doesn't have a write protect switch.  I would suggest you make a copy of anything on the card that might be of value and then follow the steps at How to Remove Write Protection from a microsd card.  As an aside, I DO NOT recommend buying memory cards from Amazon!

    I have the same issue with my nuvi 1340 .. it flashed up maps need updating as it does once a year or so . so like a good garmin user on multiple devices . ..i brought it to my computer .. had to update to the latest version of garmin express..on my computer.  did that . installed the latest version of maps for my 1340 ..
    have done so several times ,taken it off express and reinstalled . tried everything i can think of .and ive done this many many times over the years for several devices.
    same error messages ... "no map data available" the first four or five times,, now ive got"cant unlock maps" on the sixth attempt. 
       i dont have an sd card in mine and never have . as i dont need the extended european maps . its worked flawlessly on the many many previous occasions i have updated maps with previous versions of express..    and now ,a sat nav with no maps ...
    good game garmin ,,good game.
    im now left fretting weather to trust the updates for my gps fishfinder with maps or either of my other garmin gps devices....
    confidence dented severely in garmin .
    as after doing a google search ,it seems we are not alone with this issue . their are many of us ...

    Needed to use it today and instead ended up using google maps on my phone which incidentally worked quite well and was surprisingly just as good if not better than my nuvi 1340 that now has no maps and no plausible way of getting them until garmin sort this debacle out .
