Drive Smart 76 Not Recognized by Garmin Express using Windows 7. Why?

I have a Garmin Drive Smart 76 that Garmin Express will not recognize ( using Windows 7). Windows 7 gives the error 'USB Device Not Recognized' yet I can still update the maps when I am online and I select the 'Settings' icon on the Drive Smart screen. What could be the problem with Garmin Express???

There is evidence over at POI on Windows 7 that seems to indicate that some people are having success.

I have downloaded and installed version 7.17.3. The Windows error message no longer appears but Garmin Express still does not recognize my Drive Smart 76. I have also tried version 7.18.3 but that didn't work either, What version of Garmin Express will actually work with Windows 7???

Have you done as suggested in the link given above and called Product Support?

No. I haven't talked to Product Support. I had contacted them in the past and was told that Garmin Express does work with Windows 7. If there's an actual fix for this issue I would think that it would be found here on this forum...

This is a longshot, but locate the GE executable, right click on it and let windows run a compatibility check. If you need more help check Compatibility check

In the past it did but Win7 is now unsupported so if the compatibility check doesn't help your best bet is to call Product Support

What's really weird about this is that the Garmin website has the Garmin Express download for Windows 7 (Version 7.17,3.0 under 'System Requirements'). But that didn't work either...not even when ran in 'Compatibility Mode'

Something else to try, and again a longshot, is the Microsoft .NET framework repair tool. GE is dependent on .NET framwork and perhaps you have an issue. See .NET Framework repair. Make sure you reboot your machine after running the tool.

Thank you JohnfromPA for that suggestion. Unfortunately, running the repair tool did not resolve the issue,,,
