Activities not synching with Garmin Express after 7.20.0.0 & 7.20.3.0 updates

When I opened Garmin Express last night to upload my latest activity I was prompted to update to version 7.20.0.0. I did so and now I'm getting a permanent error:

"There was an error synching with Garmin Connect"

....and my activity obviously didn't upload to Garmin Connect.

Everything was ok the previous day before the update so what has occurred? 

  • Good info GC. No Vivofit 4 here, Forerunner 310XT for me, yes an old model but it does exactly what I want it to.

  • Garmin Forerunner 310XT with same problem. Today I got a notification to update to software version 7.20.1.0

    Once that was done I was back in business. Thanks to jdueck for directing me here, much appreciated.

  • I decided to wait for others to confirm the functionality of the new 7.20.1.0 update and having seen that all appears to be OK I've just updated mine. I can confirm all is now ok and the Garmin Connect link on the device synch page works as well. Slightly cheeky of Garmin not to detail the exact reason for the update but hey, at least they've dealt with it quickly.

    Syncing Vivofit 4 (and an unrelated issue) was mentioned in the release notes, but indeed not any other devices.

  • Having written some code in my day, I will say that about 80% of people would not understand what would be expressed as the reason for the issue, and about another 10% could care less.

  • I don't necessarily disagree with that. Personally I do lean towards too much info as opposed to not enough.

    But the "problem" I do have, is that there is no acknowledgment of other devices than vivofit 4 having had issues. Which appears to be the case according to this thread.

  • I am having the same problems.  can't download updates either.

  • Did you check that Garmin Express 7.20.1.0 is installed? (Click cog wheel in top right > "About" > Version)
    If that is updated, describe your problem in more detail (e.g. which device) so that maybe Garmin or others here can help.
