Activities not synching with Garmin Express after 7.20.0.0 & 7.20.3.0 updates

When I opened Garmin Express last night to upload my latest activity I was prompted to update to version 7.20.0.0. I did so and now I'm getting a permanent error:

"There was an error synching with Garmin Connect"

....and my activity obviously didn't upload to Garmin Connect.

Everything was ok the previous day before the update so what has occurred? 

  • Try rebooting your PC, then remove and re-add your device to Express

  • I have the exact same problem; Vivofit 4 starts sync, the bar moves about halfway, and then the red error message appears. If I change a setting online, like to a different color or watch face, those settings are downloaded and take effect, so the basic connectivity does work.

    I have tried:
    - Restarted Windows
    - Removed the device from Garmin Express (where near the end I received an error message regarding setup and I had to push the sync again to complete - and then I got the usual confirmations of successful setup).
    - Removed the relevant device folder in %ProgramData%\Garmin\CoreService\Devices
    - Renamed ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\device_data_store.xml (and reinstated the original file after it didn't solve the problem on its own)
    of course with having shutdown and restarted GE at appropriate times.

    (I've also looked at Express.log and ExpressDetailed.log with no useful clues, where the latter does say something like the following, but it appears to look the same when looking at an older log from when it actually works correctly:

  • GC - I've also done all of the things that you did but, like you, I couldn't get anything to work. After seeing your post I checked the log files and mine say more or less the same.

  • Hi, Same issue here, tested on new laptop with new installation Windows 10. But it seems Garmin Express does not recognize the ANT Stick any more. I can see it in the Device Manager. as ANT USB Stick 2 so that seems to be fine. But in GArmn Express it keeps searching for the ANT Stick. So I guess issue is there. Did somebody tell is to Garmin Support?

  • The error appears to stem from devices that use Ant sticks to connect to GE after the update to 7.20. I confirmed this by connecting and updating my Ant-enabled devices to a mac book air running 7.13.2 without issue. I don't recall seeing this feature in the list of updates for v7.20. Thinking

  • I have exact the same problem.
    Because I was thinking that the problem was maybe in my computer I installed Garmin Express on a other computer and there I add my device.
    The same error ocurede on that computer.

  • I have had the same problem and solved it by uninstalling the 7.20.0.0 update and reinstalling an older version 7.16.3.0

    Everything worked hunky dory.

  • I thought if doing that, where can I get  the 7.16.3.0 download?
