Garmin Express 7.16.0.0 Unable to install City Navigator North America 2024.10 to Computer

NO, this has not been fixed.  I just downloaded the lastest version of Garmin Express. 17.16.1.0.  I can download the latest City Navigator Maps to all my Garmin Auto devices, but it will not let me download the maps to my PC.  I get the same error message.  I've tried turning off my antivirus, malwarebytes, changing the folder from read only and running Express from the admin mode.  Still no resolve.  I'm open for any more suggestions, but spell them out as I'm not real computer savvy when it comes to getting into the computer code. I'm running Windows 11 on a PC.  Thanks.

  • Edit: I just received an email from Garmin that the "issue was resolved overnight"

Based on the many positive responses here and on other message boards, it seems that Garmin indeed fixed the problem with the existing Express version.

I'll leave my outdated comments and suggestions below.

After getting a pretty lame reply from Garmin Support this afternoon, saying I should try version 17.16.1.0 (duh! This was the first thing I wrote in my detailed description of what I tried), I went through the list of things to try again. One list item is to check the time and time zone on the computer. Which was correct, no surprise there. But then I decided to unplug the GPS and check the time there, and it was 8 minutes behind the (correct) PC time. It was set to auto, which is supposed to get the time from the satellites. I rode three times to work last week, so not sure why its off this much.

Anyway, the map installed on the first try after I set the time manually to match the PC!

I am not ruling out that this was a complete coincidence, but might be worth checking and it sure is faster than the gazillion times I uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin apps and drivers and rebooted the PC.

  • I've updated four different Garmin GPS units with out issue.  I suspect your situation was coincidence.  I've tried uploading to both GPS and computer, and computer only, so I don't think the time on the GPS makes much difference... No matter what I do, Garmin Express won't load the PC.

  • Coincidence may be the "solution." Just before trying the time coordination business, I tried to upload onto my computer one more time and it just worked. (Very weird, particularly the software's claim as the download was underway that the process was expected to take 6 minutes. More like 25, but it DID work.)

  • I just had one other user over on the ADVRider forum report success as soon as he unchecked the "auto" box in the Zumo GPS. Coincidence or not, might be worth a try.

  • When I had success late last night, the gps unit I used was set to auto time and was about 7 hours off from computer (the unit had been in storage for some time so had been a long while since rec's any satellite reading and the battery was surely discharged). But when nothing seems to work, anything is worth a try. :)

  • Damn. Now that is weird. I have uploaded to four different devices, but finally plugged one of them back in this morning after resetting the time on it to match my pc.  (PC has daylights saving time turned on, but device didn't.)  Bam. It worked!

  • Again, I did NOT reset the time but finally got a download after many failures using several different devices and a reinstall of Express. Perhaps Garmin had an issue on their end over the last few days and resolved it without notice. Happy to hear s now working for I think everyone who has posted on this thread.

  • I was finally able to install to my PC last night (Monday evening) after trying and failing many times throughout the day. I just selected "Install to Computer" like I did for all of the previous failed installation attempts

  • One of the items in the Garmin FAQ on issues like this is to ensure times match up, so I'm not surprised it worked.

  • Except that as u can see from my comments, those of Kenneth and 718569 above, the time had nothing to do with it for some snd likely was just a coincidence for others.
