Do I need .NET Framework 4.7.2 even though version 4.8 is already installed?

I would have one more question on this thread:

forums.garmin.com/.../fixed-garmin-express-7-11-install-error---january-2022

If you use Windows 10 21H2, .NET Framework 4.8 is already preinstalled.

Do I still need to install .NET Framework 4.7.2 to use Garmin Express?

  • Thank you very much!

However, I am very puzzled. Since DavidVazquezM had to install .NET Framework 4.7.2 separately, his Windows 10 version would be BEFORE version 1803.

But this version 1803 is not maintained at all since November 12, 2019. And weren't such old versions already forcibly updated by Microsoft long ago?

In Windows 10 .NET is an inconsistent mess that is dependent on which 'feature' updates have been applied to the original Windows 10 installation and what other .NET updates were applied in the past. Also updates to .NET through Windows Update can also break parts of .NET that are never properly fixed in subsequent updates. if you are lucky, reinstalling the already installed version can sometimes fix the breakage.

A change in hardware or software requirements or compatibility can prevent the system from automatically updating.
