Map Details option not Showing in GE 7.10.0.0

Hi Fellow Garmin'ers,

Having a strange issue with GE 7.10.0.0 which isn't giving me the option to download maps to my PC. Have logged a support call with Garmin UK but also thought I'd ask the collective here in case someone else has had this issue and successfully fixed it.

Background

I've been using BC and GE for years and have always downloaded maps to my PC as I'm a big BaseCamp user. I recently decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my Dell XPS laptop to Windows 11, but after doing a clean install of Windows 11 and then reinstalling all my apps (latest versions of GE and Basecamp downloaded from the Garmin website), the option to download maps to my PC was missing from GE. Thinking it was a Win11 compatibility issue, I blew the machine away again and rebuilt it with Windows 10 (as this is so critical to me), but was devastated to find it didn't resolve the problem.

My Setup

* Garmin Camper 760LMT-D satnav with lifetime European map updates with CN Europe NTU 2022.10 maps (this is a British/European model I believe identical to the RV 760)
* CN Europe NTU 2022.10 ALL North maps stored on the device's internal memory and CN Europe NTU 2022.10 ALL South on the SD card
* Garmin Express 7.10.0.0
* Consistent email address used throughout
* High spec Dell XPS laptop with new/clean Windows 10 install. Everything installed on C: drive which has 374Gb free space

GE installs fine and when I plug my satnav in it says Connected. It checks for updates and says my software and maps are up-to-date - see the screenshots below. My Garmin account all looks fine and shows my device and also shows I have an active subscription for 'nüMaps Europe'.

What I've Tried

1. Rebuilding the machine with a clean install of W10
2. Performed all tests without any antivirus software installed
3. Tried using a number of different internet connections (just in case some weird blocking was happing)
4. Removed device from GE and re-added it
5. Uninstalled and reinstalled GE (incl associated Microsoft Visual C++)
6. Tried removing the Micro SD card from the device to see if it worked with only half the map (in case it was getting confused with multiple maps)

  • Here's a link to a similar issue I had some months ago.  I know you said you had lifetime updates but that seems to be the trigger as to whether you see the Map Details option.  Maybe somehow Garmin no longer thinks you have lifetime updates.

  • Hi Dave,

Yes, read your helpful post before I posted mine and suspect you're right that my issue is being caused by something similar; i.e. GE isn't receiving the necessary flag or signal from Garmin to display the option.

While trying to find the fix for this, I also noticed it said on the Garmin support page found here that "Map Details is only available if the maps on the device are up to date" which might also be the cause. It states on the Garmin website here that 2022.20 European maps were released on 18th Nov 2021 but GE isn't offering them to me????

I did query this with the Garmin support agent I spoke to earlier in the week and asked if there was anything there side which could get stuck or need resetting, but was told not.

  • Quick update to say this is now fixed. I called Garmin again and this time spoke to a very helpful woman in Southampton (who incidentally came from Texas...!) who asked me to remove the device from GE, close down GE then start it up again and re-add. Hey presto, the Map Options link appeared and I was then offered a new map (2022.20) with the associated option to download to 'Computer & Device'.

I quizzed her on exactly what she'd done her end to resolve the issue, and all she'd say is "I've done a tweak at our end". I did plede with her to tell me more (in case it ever happened again) but she very diplomatically wouldn't be drawn.

While speaking to her, I did query whether it might be being caused by some flag somewhere not thinking I had lifetime updates - hence why I hadn't been offered the 2022.20 update (which the Garmin website says was published in Nov 2021).

Hope this post helps someone else experiencing the same issue. Call Garmin and refer them to this post. The first agent I spoke to didn't seem to know how to fix it there end and even said there was nothing there end they could reset or 'tweek' and yet the second agent today resolved the problem.
