Map installation on nüvi 2475LT leftovers

Last October I had a problem trying to install a map on my nuvi 2475LT and I got great advice from SUSSAMB here on how to fix the problem (Ref 5907739 if that is any help). Now I tried to install an updated map and I encountered the same problem as before. I think I have it solved now but I thought that the problem should not happen again.

Anyway, I find after updating the SD card in the .System folder there is a file .express. I don't know if I should delete it or copy it over to the nuvi. There is also a SQLite folder with a file in the .System folder and, again, I don't know if I should leave it on the SD card or move it to the nuvi, or just delete it.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • Ouch! The map installed is CN North America NT 2021.30 covering Western Alaska, Eastern Alaska, Cayman Islands, GR. I want the mid west, mainly Illinois. How did that happen?

  • current1.gpx is likely to be why your favourites reappeared.  I'd just delete all the files in the GPX folder, your nuvi will then recreate a new current.gpx when you reboot it.

As for the map, you couldn't have selected the full map or the portion you want correctly.

  • I don't have a problem with the favourites still there. It will save me having to recreate them.

In BaseCamp the whole of North America was displayed. I went to the Map tab and selected an option to send the map to the nuvi + SD. I made no specific region selection as I thought it would transfer the whole map. Indeed, I didn't recall seeing an option to select any or all of the file to send.

  • Should be able to select whichever part you want under Advanced/Partial install.

I'd still delete all those files. It doesn't delete your favourites but it will stop you deleting any individual ones in the future

  • I have used the Advanced/Partial and it shows me there are 193 CT etc. but, when installed, it only lists Western Alaska, Eastern Alaska, Cayman Islands, GR as being the installed map. Why can it not just install the whole file using the proper title? I presume that there are numerous files for the various states, etc., but since they seem to me to be held within a container file why would it separate out individual elements instead of installing the whole as if it was being installed via Garmin Express?

  • Sorry no idea, doesn't happen for me. You can check what map files are installed on your PC using JaWaVa's GMTK program.  Using its Device Manager you can check what's on the device and card.  It may just be listing a number of states but have downloaded the full map.  You can check the relevant map cover using both those Utilities

    www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

    www.javawa.nl/jdm_en.html

  • The GMTK shows the file as I would expect, i.e. the official name of the file. The other program does not recognise the nuvi unit or the SD card.

  • Wow.  That's the first I've heard of Device Manager not recognising a device.  Not sure I can help you much more Disappointed

  • It did not recognise the unit on either my PC or on my laptop. That would imply there is something fundamentally wrong with the unit. I have been very careful with it over all the years I have it. It is not as a result of damage or abusive handling.

How would I check if the map installed does in fact cover North America in spite of showing Alaska, etc. as the title? I tried selecting a destination in Chicago but it bombed out after about 12-15 per cent.

I find it very strange that you would have expected the Factory reset to do just that whereas all mine did was just take me to selecting country and language. The on-board maps remained the up-to-date European ones instead of returning to the original installation of both European and North American maps. It obviously did not do a full Factory reset.

  • A reset doesn't change the maps, it cannot as the old maps are deleted when you install new ones.  To check the map on your device set it to simulation mode then do a Where to and select somewhere, a POI or favourite for example.  See if the map is detailed around that area.

One last thought. Have you tried setting your device to mass storage mode? I believe from here support.garmin.com/.../ your device is by default in mtp mode. Some Win10 OS seem to struggle with mtp mode.
