Garmin Express has been installed and working on my PC for years. I purchased a Forerunner 245 and wanted to download any new firmware updates so connected the watch to my PC. The app suggested I update to the latest version and I downloaded and tried to install it. I received the following error:

I rebooted and tried again. Same problem.

I've tried the suggested fixes and nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

  • 7.1.4 fails to install on my laptop, but worked as advertised on my desktop, both running Windows 10 with latest updates. On the laptop the install hangs up at the "Installing Netx472Redist" for a minute and then the "Install Failed: windows pops up.

Likely a reference to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2.

I have resolved this issue. Even though I could create, edit, and delete files and folders in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows folder and it's child folders it seems the Garmin install program was looking for specific permissions. Garmin Express installed correctly on another PC so I decided to duplicate the permissions from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows folder and it's child folders from that PC to the problem PC. There were differences. Making those changes allowed Garmin Express to be installed without issue. Thanks to those who suggested it was a rights issue.
