Garmin Express-Win 10-Forerunner syncing-Edge Devices Do Not

Running Garmin Express 7.1.4.0 on Windows 10. I've never had an issue with Express on this computer. Recently Garmin Express started returning the message "Sorry, we're having a problem communicating with our servers." when connecting either an Edge 1030 or Edge 830. Garmin Express returns no errors syncing my Forerunner 945. It may have started with or soon after the 7.1.4.0 update.

I've searched the Garmin forums and Net for similar errors and followed Garmin's FAQ for this issue. Fixes attempted include:

-Verify time/date are correct in Win 10;
-Stop Net firewall;
-No proxy settings;
-No VPN active;
-Reboot computer;
-Restart router;
-Clear Garmin localappdata folder;
-Chkdsk Edge drives;
-Remove Garmin devices from Garmin Express and add them back;
-Uninstall Garmin Express and clean registry, reinstall Garmin Express and add devices back;
-Update Windows 10 to latest updates

Nothing has changed the Garmin Express error returned. It works for the Forerunner 945, but not the Edge 1030 or Edge 830.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Same here for over a week now.

    I opened a ticket a the support team.

    Hoping for a fast solution.

    They say it's a familiar bug with some users.

    At least they are aware of the problem.

    I'll try to post updates in case I'll know something new.

  • Thank you @Ravona. Please let me know if you receive a resolution.

    I set up an entirely new Garmin Express installation on a clean laptop and could not get past adding an Edge device. I filed a ticket with Garmin Support as well.

  • Hi, I've tried to ping them today on the open ticket (8 days and counting...). I'm under the impression it's a server side issue affecting some of the users. On the phone call I understood that Golf watches were affected mostly (?!?).

    I don't think reinstalling anything will help as frustrating as it is.

    However I do find it strange that not so many people complained :/

    I Will update...

  • It works for the Forerunner 945, but not the Edge 1030 or Edge 830

    Wondering if there are corrupt files on the Edge devices. Have you tried a manual upload of the FIT files to see if they would be accepted on the Garmin Connect import data page?

  • @seilogramp All files on the Edges have been previously uploaded successfully through Garmin Connect Mobile. The activities have also been removed and saved locally using the USB link to my workstation. The ongoing GE issue is lack of the ability to sync the Edge devices for software updates and CIQ app updates. Everything works normal for Forerunner devices on the same workstation. The Edge issues are across all the Edge products we have in the house - 530, 830 and 1030.

  • Thanks @Ravona. I've received a couple of responses from Garmin regarding my ticket for this issue. First for some screenshots of the Garmin Express error. Second for submission of Garmin Express program logs. I'll post back with anything I hear.

  • I'm not able to sync both my Edge 830 and my Fenix 6x. I was instructed to delete GarminDevice.xml file from the Garmin folder and have it a go but no luck.

    I'm referencing the answer I got from the support team :

    Thank you for your email. The ticket has been escalated to the engineering team a few days ago and I requested some updates. It seems like the issue might not be Express related so let's go ahead and delete the .xml file from the watch, which will be recreated when the watch starts up.

    To do so, please connect your watch to the computer, select it as a drive, then open the Garmin folder and look for the GarminDevice.xml file.

    Next please unplug the watch and let it restart normally. Then reconnect the watch to the computer, open Garmin Express and see if the program lets you sync the watch and check for updates.

    After trying this solution I've replied them that it didn't work.

    , Please try this advise and see if it works out for you.

    I'll keep you posted.

    Robert.

  •  clearing the GarminDevice.xml on my Edge 1030 did not fix the GE server error. Thank you for the info.

  • I reviewed the log file and noticed this line :
    Newtonsoft.Json.JsonSerializationException: Error converting value "DataFieldAlert" to type 'Garmin.Omt.Service.Update.ConnectIq.Permission'. Path '[10].permissions[0]', line 1, position 4225. ---> System.ArgumentException: Requested value 'DataFieldAlert' was not found.
       at Newtonsoft.Json.Utilities.EnumUtils.ParseEnum(Type enumType, NamingStrategy namingStrategy, String value, Boolean disallowNumber)
       at Newtonsoft.Json.Converters.StringEnumConverter.ReadJson(JsonReader reader, Type objectType, Object existingValue, JsonSerializer serializer)
    Apparently I recently installed the Eat my ride app on both my devices and according to the error I got I thought I can try uninstall it.
    AND NOW THE SYNC FINALLY WORKS !!!
