Check your Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Uninstall a program and see if you have "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x86)" installed. If that's a version later than 14.23.27820…
See this thread for an explanation and workaround: https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mac-windows-software/f/garmin-express-windows/209031/windows-10-6-19-3-0-garmin-express-could-not-be-installed…
Thanks,
At least the problem is easy to patch or correct for the next update
I will wait for the next version of Garmin Express
Hi
You can download the latest vc redistributables here...
https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
But seriously, you cannot expect me to deinstall a newer version right? These are needed for other programs
I'm also struggling to install the new version of Garmin Express. It seems unreasonable to me to roll back software on my laptop just to suit Garmen Express as it may have a negative effect on other programs running on the computer.
Are Garmin likely to offer an alternaitve fix to resolve this issue?
I have to say I'm pretty unimpressed so far. When I bought the Garmin product I didn't realise I'd need to be an IT whiz to keep it running in the short term.
Generally you don't have to, I've been using Express trouble free for many years. Often those folks that have issues haven't kept their PC up to date, or haven't understood the system requirements etc. Not saying that's the case here but more often than not it's not a Garmin issue that is causing the problem. This issue should be corrected in the next Express update.
SUSSAMB thanks for taking the time to respond. I've been using Garmin Express with my current laptop for over a year without an issue, when I attempted to udate to Express 6.19.4.0 the problem occured.
Laptop was ok with previous versions of Express the problem started on the same leptop with express 6.19.4.0
Muchas gracias. Problema solucionado
That did the trick alright, but it makes me really unhappy about the GE installer. It should definitely check if a valid version of the redistributable exists instead of forceinstalling the file. I am pretty sure that GE would work fine with newer version as well. This is a serious bug that needs fixing.
Newest version of Garmin Express, 6.20.0.0, installs fine. Spread the word!
I suspect they needed to bump a minor version number to change dependencies, where changing micro versions (6.19.3.0 -> 6.19.4.0) meant they could only change their own software code.
This issue has been resolved with the 6.20.0 release of Garmin Express.
