Check your Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Uninstall a program and see if you have "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x86)" installed. If that's a version later than 14.23.27820, you have to uninstall it for the installation of Garmin Express to succeed. (In my case, I had 14.23.28127.4 already installed.)

In C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Temp, there should be a logfile dd_vcredit_x86_201912.....log and in it, you'll probably find these lines:

[5830:4424][2019-12-19T12:07:42]e000: Error 0x80070666: Cannot install a product when a newer version is installed.
[5830:6768][2019-12-19T12:07:42]i500: Shutting down, exit code: 0x666

And this exit code trips the Express installer which thinks the installation failed and refuses to continue.

    Thanks,

At least the problem is easy to patch or correct for the next update

I will wait for the next version of Garmin Express

  • I got the same problem and a newer version of the vc redistributables installed. But seriously, you cannot expect me to deinstall a newer version right? These are needed for other programs. Pleas make the installer use the newer version instead.

I am experiencing the same issue on my Windows 10 PC.  Never had a problem installing Garmin Express or any other software until version 6.19.4.0.  I confirmed I have a 14+ version of C++ installed.  I uninstalled C++ and tried again to install Garmin Express with no success.  Keep getting error that it cannot locate the x(86).msi file.  Garmin should update the installer to be compatible with the most recent C++ version as this is obviously the issue.  Garmin ??

Thanks, it worked for me! I had version 14.24.28127, I just don't know if it will impact visual studio

Uninstalling Visual Studio C++ extensions x86 and letting the Garmin express reinstall it for me worked fine in my case as well.

    > I just don't know if it will impact visual studio

    I'm pretty sure it won't.
