New esu.exe .NET error entry in Event Viewer since 5.3.0.0 release

I started seeing these in Event Viewer from last Saturday, i.e. when I updated Garmin Express to latest version, i.e.: 5.3.0.0

Event 1026, .NET Runtime

Application: esu.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319

I have not seen these before, just checked.

I re-installed GE twice, also removed data from %LOCALAPPDATA%\Garmin_Ltd._or_its_subsid as suggested elsewhere. But to no avail.

Windows 10 Home x64, fully up to date. No other issues seen. GE works fine nonetheless (except the usual bugs).

Any ideas?
  • Dear Garmin

It's now three weeks since I spotted this bug. And nearly one month since this error has been introduced by you.

How about fixing it? Isn't high time? to do that?
  • Copied Newtonsoft.Json.dll still stops

I have copied a Newtonsoft.Json.dll file into the express selfupdater folder but I still get a stopped error message on my reliability report.
Should I uninstall Garmin Express then reinstall it? Or am I missing something?

  • Having the same problem with Garmin Express 5.3.1.0

    Hi All,

I'm having the same problem since updating to Garmin Express 5.3.1.0 on Windows 10 Anniversary edition. It may have skipped a version so I may not have actually installed 5.3.0.0

I have had to uninstall it for the time being.
  • Saw that 5.4.0.0 is now available. I tried to update through Garmin Express, but got some weird error about not being compatible with 64-bit? I just downloaded the installer direct from Garmin and ran it. That .DLL file is in the directory, although I'm not sure if it just kept it there from before or not (I had manually copied it awhile ago.)
  • This issue has been resolved with the release of Garmin Express 5.4.0.0 which can be downloaded from here. This thread is now closed.
