Sorry, we're having a problem communicating with our servers

I have multiple GPSs supported by GE
Drive 50 and several older nuvi's

On the nuvi's, no issue (even see the new 2018.1 map ready to update)
On the Drive 50, I see "Sorry, we're having a problem communicating with our servers"

So now issue with firewall or something wrong with my PC clock being out of sync.

any thoughts?

    hi
yes i can connect to the server

    it says
Your computer can connect to Garmin Express servers!

so is it a garmin express error???? or what else could it be

or is there any other posiibilitys to update the maps???
i just wanna have the newest maps installed
  • Then I suspect something on your PC is preventing Express from doing so or there is an issue with its installation. You could try uninstalling then reinstalling Express first and if that doesn't help look for anything that could be blocking Express. If you can't find anything call Product Support for detailed troubleshooting.

cannot be a problem with my pc i tried it on 5 different computers with different operating systems
windows 8.1 windows 8 windows 7 and also xp
also reeinstalled it on every one of the 5 pcs
the other thing is its the second drive 50 today because the first one i bought had an broken battery before i returned it to the shop i also tried to install new maps
on 2 different pcs also didnt work.
so 2 different drive 50 navis on different computers and 2 different internet modems.
i think must be a problem from garmin
  • Does sound possible, so call Product Support so they can help.

One thing you could try is to switch your Drive 50 from MTP mode to mass storage mode (just google for the procedure if you don't know how). It should work in MTP mode, but I have heard of cases where switching to mass storage solved problems with Express and other Garmin software.

I gave this a shot (really I was in mass storage and changed back), still no luck. I even tried another PC.

Same issue. Older Nuvis OK, Drive 50 red box of death.

    update from today
tried to update on 2 different macbooks and another pc
1 older version(because mac os was to old) said drive 50 not supportet
the other mac with new os and also new garmin express stucked by searching for updates
the "new pc" must be number 7 or 8 had the same problem .sorry were have a problem...............
i dont believe that the support call on monday will bring a solution but i give it a try
its really sad the navi itself seems nice but i dont wanna have a full liftime maps navi with no update possibility
(if there would be any chance to update without garming express just the maps i would keep it)
so hopefully there is any solution or anything else for me or it was a short time in my life with an garmin navi.
    still hoping ....
  • Since 3 different users with a Drive 50 are having the same problem, this is probably something Garmin needs to fix. Call customer support as suggested and give them a chance to identify the problem and come up with a solution.
  • This is probably a dumb question but have your new Drive 50's ever had a GPS lock? If they're new, maybe that's what it takes to synchronize the clock and then connect.
  • That's a very good point, and one I hadn't considered :)
