There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect

Former Member

Evening all,

Got my brand new Edge 20 today. Created a course from a gpx file and tried to send it to my device. Got the error message "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect". All software on device and PC is up to date. Have rebooted PC etc etc. This is hugely unimpressive Garmin - it's 2015 not 1990, this stuff should just work, plug and play! Any quick ideas before I package my device up and send it back to the retailer?
  • I have checked the download folder and there is nothing there! Still syncing courses fail. All other activities sync fine.

I am sorry for the troubles. While the feature works overall there must a specific reason why you are having some trouble with only a few Courses.

    1. Which Course(s) in your account is failing to send?

    2. Which Course(s) successfully send?

    3. Are there any other items being sent during the sync?

    4. Check inside the Garmin/NewFiles folder on the Edge. This folder should be empty after the device starts up. If there are files in there delete or move them to your computer.

    5. How much free memory is available on the Edge?

I noticed that in your account your Resting Heart Rate is set to 0. To correct this:

    1. Login to your account
    2. Click the Profile icon on the left
    3. Click Settings
    4. Click Training Zones
    5. Enter a valid number in the Resting Heart Rate field.

Thank you in advance for the additional information.

  • Hi Curt,

Thank you for your prompt response. Here is the info you requested:

    1. Examples of courses that failed are courses: 10958897 & 10935715
    2. Example of course that synced successfully: 10921811
    3. No other items are being synced
    4. Garmin Newfiles folder is completely empty
5: Garmin Free space: 41.5 mb

    Heart rate corrected, thanks

Thank you again for all you help,

    1. Was 10958897 created from the activity #885602555 of the same name? That activity is a .gpx course file uploaded into Connect and would be the cause of the sync problem.
    2. Same with this course 10935715 it seems to be created from the same activity.

  • Hi Curt,

No, both courses where created manually using windows 10 and Microsoft Edge browser.

    Thanks,

The Courses are now set on Google maps but do you know if they were created in OpenStreet maps then later switched to Google maps? There is one instance in our testing where removing the activity allowed the Courses to sync. I have removed the activity from your account. See if the Courses with transfer. I will put the activity back when your done.

    Thank you for your help

  • Hi Curt,

I have used open maps on couple of course and then switched to google maps but I can not recall if these where the courses used. However, this can not be the issue as last night I created course 10966255 using google maps from scratched and even used chrome browser to create it and the course still fails. Also I have tried syncing one of the old courses again as you recommended but it still fails both using garmin connect on iOS and using a wired connection from my pc. I tried multiple times clearing the sync each time and re sending the course to the device and still fails. If there are any other tests I could please let me know.

I'm sorry it is not resolved. If you don't mind I would like to do some testing with your Courses. I'll need to change your password and add a Edge to your account temporarily. Today is my Friday but I will return on Sunday.

  • Hi Curt,

Not a problem at all. Do any testing that might help you identify the issue. If there is anything else I can do to help, please let me know.

    Thanks

    is there any workaround?

Is there any way I could send an received track/course to my device, eventually through manually converting the gpx to FIT and copying the fit to the device? (Forerunner 920xt)
I would need to be able to use the navigation feature in the following weekend. :(
