There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect

Evening all,

Got my brand new Edge 20 today. Created a course from a gpx file and tried to send it to my device. Got the error message "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect". All software on device and PC is up to date. Have rebooted PC etc etc. This is hugely unimpressive Garmin - it's 2015 not 1990, this stuff should just work, plug and play! Any quick ideas before I package my device up and send it back to the retailer?

I am sorry for the troubles. The Connect Team is aware and working on a resolution to that issue. Any Course created from a .gpx file will fail to Sync. Courses have to be created from an Activity or manually in the Courses section.

Again, I am sorry for the troubles.

Thanks for the reply Curt. I loaded the gpx file as an activity and then saved it as a course. Are you saying that a course created like that will also fail to sync?

    Servers down?

I've been trying to connect to Garmin express since yesterday and I keep getting an " our servers are down"... are they down or do I have an issue on my end?

I get exactly the same error with courses created manually and using garmin 810. The problem does not occur with all courses created but with some. Also the sync fails both with Bluetooth connection and wired connection.

I have to say to the Garmin folks - your software is just dreadful. Hardware great, software dreadful. This really isn't rocket science but you make it seem like it! I have a particular cycle route that I want to improve my time on. I want to load it to my Edge 20 as a course so that I can see how I'm doing in real time. This is an advertised feature of this product and it doesn't work. I have the activity as a fit file from a Forerunner 110 and a gpx file from strava. I have tried every possible way of manipulating these file to get this activity loaded as a course on the Edge 20 - no luck. Garmin are saying that if the activity was recorded on the Edge 20, then I could save it as a course. But I have it as a fit file and I can put that on the Edge 20. What's the difference between that and actually recording the activity for real on the Edge 20? Are you saying that not all fit files are the same? This is all a dreadful mess. As I said in my original post, if there is no imminent fix for all these problems my device is going back to the retailer. Truly dreadful software Mr Garmin!!!!!!!!

I am sorry for the trouble. You can upload that .FIT file into Connect as an Activity if it came from the Forerunner 110 then save it as a Course. Once it is saved as a Course you can send it to the Edge 20. Right now the main issue is with Courses created from .GPX files uploaded to Connect. You also might be able to put the .FIT file directly into the NewFiles folder on the Edge 20. It should turn it into a Course which you can ride.

If a Course you send to device fails to sync, be sure to clear the Sync menu on the left in Garmin Connect before you send another. Otherwise you'll continue to send the original.

Sorry Curt, but the process you just described is exactly what I did, as described in my post. Perhaps it wasn't clear. Anyway, that process doesn't work. At the last stage 'send to device', I get the syncing error message which is the title of this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm returning the device tomorrow, I've had enough of this :-(

There are still 21 items in your Sync que in Connect. If you had deleted all the items there would only be one Course, if it failed to Sync. Please delete all the items in the Sync Que then send the Course again. There is still the possibility that there is something wrong with Course file your sending. Try creating the Course manually.

It is also possible that there are files on the computer that Garmin Express cannot send to the Edge 20. Clear the Downloads folder at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\UnitID of the Edge\Sync\Downloads

    Hi Curt,

I don't think that creating the course manually will help him. I encounter the same error with courses created manually. And yes, I delete all items in the Sync Que before sending the course again. I tried at least twenty times before giving up. I haven't checked the downloads folder though. I will check tonight and revert. For me, the only solution so far is to export the course as GPX and place the GPX file in the new files folder. However, this looses the elevation data.
