Deleting device waypoints, routes, tracks, maps from BaseCamp does not work

When in BaseCamp, if I delete items the Epix device internal storage, BaseCamp reflects this while the device is connected including syncs, adds, etc.

When I disconnect the device, all is still there. If I pushed an updated route or route that shares waypoints, I also have duplicates of all my waypoints etc. Two updates (while BaseCamp said the routes and waypoints were gone) resulted in over 30 way points because I have around 10-15 each route. The only way I can delete anything is manually through the watch and with all the duplicated waypoints, this has taken over an hour just manually deleting.

Waypoints are also not shared, they are always duplicated for each route, however each route is converted to a track which is not usable since it creates straight line paths from way point to way point that even most hikes wouldn't work with.

When I send a route to the device BaseCamp gives an error each time saying "Routes sent to epix were recalculated because they was created on a map that is not installed on that device." English needs to be updated there a bit was/were but this seems to be where the route breaks down and turns into a severely broken track with direct lines from waypoint to waypoint that span miles which is impossible to cross unless you're flying or hardcore parkour.

Tracks can't receive way point alerts either which is a key feature of this device.

I created the routes using the 100k pre-installed map as the active map, and the 24k map for my region. Both give me this error. I do see the 24k isn't listed as installed on my device although MapInstall put it on there and I can use it. The 100K is listed though, so I do have a valid map no matter what.

This is also after the Epix 2.3 firmware release today or yesterday.

HA You seriously can't put that up as an answer? That is not a very good work around nor a solution and it requires what I'd say is a high level of knowledge of Garmin's devices but yes I am aware of the file & folder for writes from BaseCamp.

If BaseCamp just did it's job by deleting the objects or if it just made it clear you can't delete anything from certain devices then all would be well.
  • Inability to delete in BaseCamp

BaseCamp is a very useful tool to create waypoints, routes and tracks. The inability to delete items (including the original form of modified items) is a SERIOUS shortcoming, IMHO. Hopefully, this will be addressed very soon. The process of deleting items on the Epix is tedious and time consuming!

I believe you are referring to the deleting of items on the device from within BaseCamp is that correct? Not all devices allow for that feature through BaseCamp and it has to be done on the device. It depends on which device you are using.

Well BaseCamp should be able to identify this and at least let the user know rather than gamble. I did work with Garmin more and got this issue reported and they've identified it as a problem they'll be working on. They also said I'd be notified when the issue is resolved so hopefully I will and it's soon.

    .

I have an Oregon 450 and can delete the "Current Tracks" via basecamp or the device itself.

I have deleted them both ways and also deleted a temp gpx file that was hidden on the device.

After deleting everything, i go into Basecamp and plug the GPS in, all the tracks on it are gone in. But i can unplug it and plug it in again and all these old current tracks re appear.

Does anyone know where these are coming from?
  • Do they reappear on the GPS, or Basecamp, or both?

Just in the Basecamp. Definitely a basecamp issue for me. My PC shows up current tracks dating back to 2013. But a friends laptop that we have used for editing the past few months shows up current tracks for the last 2 months. Nothing on the GPS when turned on.

It's not a massive issue for me as they are not appearing on the GPS, but still would be nice to get resolved.

The issue sounds to be with the device and BaseCamp. All Garmin devices require some special sauce to remove objects from the system area. The hurdles are on the device and BaseCamp needs to know how to jump the hurdles, hence why it's likely both software and the device. For the Epix, it sounds like it will definitely be both as well.

The issue is objects can be deleted in BaseCamp but will re-appear upon reconnecting the device.
If you edit/re-add anything that you thought you removed, then they will be added as duplicates.

If they're not appearing on the device but do in BC when the device isn't connected then they are in the BC database somewhere, have you checked the Unlisted data folder? (it's at the bottom of the top left hand pane)

Normally the problem is that folks select Remove from instead of delete. If you 'remove' data from the folder it's in then it still remains in the Unlisted data folder. To get rid of data permanently you need to select Delete.

No, as Alex states they don't appear on the device, just in BC and then without the device connected.
