There was a problem communicating with the Garmin device GARMIN

I have this issue today. Tried nevest and previous version od BaseCamp on two PCs. Problem is with Epix (fresh out the box) and Fenix2. On etrex20 is ok.

Its some kind of global problem or what?
  • Sorry I don't know enough about the Oregon 600, if like every other handheld the GarminDevice.xml file should be in the Garmin folder on your Oregon.

However you should also see the gmaptz.img file in the Garmin folder, just delete that and replace it with v15 of the timezone file and see if that resolves it.

A problem communicating with the Garmin device nüvi 55

I have installed Garmin Express and Basecamp when I connect my new Nuvi 55 I get the message below:

    --------------------------- Error ---------------------------
There was a problem communicating with the Garmin device nüvi 55. Please update the software in the device. Communication with the device may continue with reduced functionality. Please contact Garmin customer support for assistance.
    ---------------------------

When I go to My Dashboard on the Garmin site My device cannot be found - I get the Error message No Devices Found - Connect a device and try again. I have installed the Firefox plugin. I have updated the software and have installed the latest USB drivers from Garmin. Garmin Express shows the following details: Model nuvi55 Serial Number 3A7178539 Software Version 4.30 I am running Windows 8.1, FireFox 38.0.1. I bought this in May 2015.

This is ridiculous! While I am more than capable of implementing the changes to fix the problems that I am having with my device, why should I have too? I bought my Nuvi 55 last Sunday and from the moment I installed the Garmin Express and Basecamp I have spent time trying to fix the problem that everyone else is chasing. Why is Garmin not following this thread and seeing the number of people that are not happy. It seems to me that they should be able to deliver a simple update to overcome the problem. If this is how Garmin supports its users then they need to seriously look a their support infrastructure as well as the development side of the house. On a side note I have raised a support ticket with Garmin via email and have not heard a thing from them...sad indeed! :( :(
  • It has and posted that it's dealing with it. Hopefully there should be a fix shortly. I've used Garmins for many years and this is the first time an issue like this has occurred.

Version 16 of the timezone map has now been withdrawn but unfortunately some like yourself have been affected.
  • Thank you

Thank you, all - I have been trying to work out why my courses didn't work - and this has fixed it. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
    Joe

SUSSAMB officially got to the top of the class

V15 of the Time Zone map worked a treat, but only in the following procedure !!!!!

    In this order:
Delete v16 of time zone map (gmaptz.img)
Replace with v15 of time zone map (gmaptz.img)
    Delete GarminDevice.xml
    Remove USB cable from device
Reboot Device and allow to fix position
    Turn off device
    Boot up BaseCamp
    Reconnect device with USB Cable
    Basecamp now recognises Device

Thanks again for all your help and for sending the old file.

    You are a star !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It appears Garmin has released a new version of the timezone map (16.2) that solves this problem. I updated to it yesterday and everything works fine, without having to go back to version 15.

I followed the steps for my Garmin 2689LMT to a T minus the Basecamp as I don't know how to use it, and 2) I think it's more for watches... and it's STILL an hour behind!
I'm about ready to throw this thing in the garbage!!!!!!!!!!

    Please help :(
  • I'm confused as to what your problem is? Is your nuvi not showing the correct time?

Yes it's "stuck" 1 hour behind my current time.
