There was a problem communicating with the Garmin device GARMIN

I have this issue today. Tried nevest and previous version od BaseCamp on two PCs. Problem is with Epix (fresh out the box) and Fenix2. On etrex20 is ok.

Its some kind of global problem or what?

I am also receiving the message that there is a problem communicating with the Garmin device GARMIN.

I have uninstalled BaseCamp AND Garmin Express and reinstalled both of them. I have reinstalled the USB driver. I have reset my ZUMO 665 back to factory defaults.

The computer is Windows 8.1 64 bit.

What do I need to do to get rid of the error?

Now I am also receiving this annoying message on my Edge 1000... is there any solution?

I'm having the exact same issue here with both pcs. Guessing it was one of the updates it did.
I get that error There was a problem communicating with the Garmin device GARMIN.
Please update the software in the device.
Communication with the device may continue with reduced functionality. Please contact Garmin customer support for assistance.
and now it shows my device and memory card, but it now shows the device name as GARMIN, AND IT WAS ZUMO665 before.
Also it shows all my data on the memory card I. Base camp, but none on the main device.
However, if I disconnect the gps and use it that way it Showa all my routes and data on the main device.

Having the exact same problem with both of my nearly new 64st's. Basecamp also says that we don't have a BirdsEye subscription, even though we do have one (on both). Map updates in Garmin Express are also failing. I have tried the troubleshooting steps in the post above and they made no difference. The devices now show up as GARMIN (H) rather than GPSMAP 64st like they did before. I have tried deleting the GarminDevice.xml file from the device's hard drive in an effort to fool Basecamp into trying to recognize them as new. Made no difference. All software (Basecamp, Garmin Express and the device) are the latest versions. I have submitted an email to tech support.

I have had the same issue and sent a report to Support. I have uninstalled basecamp and all of the sub folders, I had deleted the GPX file on the device all to no avail. It is frustrating to say the least. Prior to that It saw my device as Nuvi 2589 now its GARMIN(GARMIN) and sees it as a microSD Card. New 2589 running on MAcOS.

At a guess your garmindevice.xml file has corrupted. You'll find it in the Garmin folder. Delete it then reboot your nuvi, this will recreate the xml file. Now try with Basecamp etc.

Even master reset doesn't help. I've installed Basecamp and Garmin Express software on different (fresh) computer and still no change.
During fight with this issue I noticed that when I run "WebUpdate" it is trying to upload new firmware every time (on Edge 1000 from v2.8 to v3.0). This is weird, because I have v3.0 for some time without any problems, till now...

I've followed all of the suggestions you gave: it still doesn't work!!
I hope techsupport of Garmin will fix this problem quickly (it's nice weather this weekend ...)
