Baecamp Remove Shaping Points

Short question about the option Remove Shaping points in Basecamp, does this leave the route intact or will the GPS always recalculate ?

The reason why I am asking this is, because I am making routes with a lot of shaping points (No Poi's) and also don't alert)) but every time I send such a route to my GPS, these shaping points also show up in my "Trip Planner"

Thanks in advance
• If you use the 'remove shaping points' in Basecamp then I believe what will happen depends on the device you send them to, some will recalculate, some won't. Is there any resaon why you wish to remove shaping points?

Thanks !!!

The reason why I want to remove them is listed in my OP:

So for example I have in my route 2 pois and in between them 20 Shaping points, but still these shaping points keep showing up in my GPS Trip Planner, so that's why the reason why I want to remove them

Sorry that my OP was a bit confusing ;)

Thanks again
• So you just want to remove them to stop them being listed? Well in that case as I said what will happen will depend on your nuvi or other GPS (you don't say which one you have), indeed nuvis before the 2013 model convert shaping points to way points regardless.

On my 2508 the route remains 'as is' on my GPS having removed shaping points. However if I recalculate then I can lose the 'shaping' so I don't bother to remove shaping points.

Hi,

Thanks again.

I am using a Nuvi 2575 (Se-Asia edition)

Bummer that the before 2013 models convert those shaping points to way points.

3 questions.

1 - If I buy a new GPS (planning on buying a Garmin Camper 760LMT-D, because we want to make a Camper trip through Europe next year) how can I see (in the shop preferably) that it doesn't have this (stupid) behavior of converting those Shaping points ?

2- Is there any way to turn this behavior off for my current GPS (I suspect not)

Last question: Is there maybe a way to rename (in Basecamp) those Shaping Points in "1 go" just like the "Don't Alert" option ?

Thanks again, I going to start experimenting a bit more with Basecamp and my GPS and see if removing those Shaping Points alters my Route.
• No, you can't change your current model, and as I don't have a 760 I can't check ... maybe someone with experience of one will chime in.

Don't quite understand your last question? You can right click any point in route properties and rename it, but you can't change them all in '1 go' as they need individual names.

Thanks again, yeah my last question was to rename them in "1 go" and automatically name them for example Shape001 -> Shape0xx. Maybe this could be listed as a "new feature" to be added to Basecamp ;)

Oke will do the manual rename (one more task to do :) )

One more question, do you maybe have a list (or know one) which recent models doesn't have this "Feature" anymore ?

Thanks again, very much appreciated.
• If you mean models that don't convert shaping points then any nuvi that uses the trip planner from 2013 onwards retains shaping points, pre 2013 models (like yours) don't.

I have no idea about the zumo, RV or other lines, sorry, but I believe the Camper 760 is a recent model so suspect it would retain shaping points, perhaps contact [email protected] and ask?

Thanks again.

I think I have found a way around it (however it's time consuming)

Create a Route with a Starting Point and an End Point in between them a couple of Shaping Points.

Convert this Route to a Track and Convert it right back to a Route. Your 2 Starting Points will be still there and will be renamed but your Shaping Points are gone. It's a bit more work but I think this works.

Thanks again, will email Garmin and ask.

^ I cheered to early, it seems that my Nuvi doesn't like this and will not show these kind of routes under Trip Planner

It will only show the following

- Routes with Way Points and in between Via Points
- Routes with Way Points and before the transfer the Via Points removed with Basecamp.

It will NOT show the following

- Routes converted to Tracks
- Routes converted to Tracks and converted back to Routes.

Aah back to the drawing board :(
• Well no nuvis can read tracks, but I'm surprised a track converted to a route doesn't show

Incidentally have you tried playing with the setting under Edit, Options, Device Transfers?
