What do these arrows indicate (picture)

And why are there so many? Seems like one would do but there are three and sometimes four as if something is being duplicated?

You've hit on the root of the problem....I think.

For unknown reasons, the Nuvi is forcing the back and forth. I cant seem to tell it NOT to do that.

For example. Lets say I have a straight 1 mile stretch of road, a divided highway. I have 5 stops on the West bound side and 5 stops on the East bound side.
It wont allow me to do ALL the stops on the Westbound side before going to the East bound side.

Instead it's taking me half way then turning me around to do some stops on the other side THEN goina back the other direction to do the remaining stops even though
I have them specifically ordered in Basecamp NOT to do that.

    A mind of it's own?

There is definitely a learning curve with this stuff ;-)

That seems to be where all the extra arrows are coming from.
  • Well if they truly are on one side and if you've got them in the correct order that shouldn't happen. Are you able to attach a gpx file of your route?
  • BaseCamp routes based on location of the Waypoints. If a Waypoint doesn't fall on a road, BaseCamp will find the nearest road for routing, fly out to the waypoint and return. All you need do is make slight adjustments to the Waypoints (Move Tool) such that they are on the proper lane/side and in order for the direction of travel in the route.

Looking to this thread as well as to your other thread I get the feeling, that something is corrupt in your system. A possible place is the cache of basecamp ( in the folder c:\user\username\Appdata\Local\Garmin\Basecamp) so I propose, you should stop basecamp, delete the complete folder and restart basecamp. (or instead of deleting the folder , rename it so if something unforseen happens, you can reestablish this folder.) If Basecamp does not find this folder, it reestablishes it itself and reads the data once more in. I had once also map problems, which disappeared after deleting this folder.

That is troubling. I have not seen that before but it would appear as though if the route is traversing the same segment that this may happen I suppose. I would be interested in seeing the route. The arrows are drawn at intervals along the total distance of the route, but the current segment of the route is not known at the time we draw the arrows. To us the route lines are just that... Lines on a screen. Would it be possible for you to send me your rout via the BaseCamp help email? You can export it as a GPX file. We won't share your private information.

This is something I hadn't thought about.
    I'll try it.
    Thnaks!

    Hi,
Another nail struck perhaps. I have had to return more than one GPS because of various faults. The latest being a malfunctioning USB port.
In all fairness to Garmin, I should state I'm purchasing refurbished units. New units would likely have a better "good use" to fault ratio.

Before I do, let me ask you this.....

I just noticed in one of my Nuvis that I had the U-turns avoidance set.
Could that cause this type of seemingly redundant routing when instead the GPS is simply avoiding U turns?
