What are the odds the RAM memory in your Garmin 2460 has problems?

I just recently bought a used 2460LMT off of ebay.

It seems to have persistent problems that make me suspicious that it may have at least some bad memory cell pairs (in RAM).
Not exactly sure what type of memory is in the 2460 but I'll take a guess it is DRAM due to lower cost. But computer RAM still
consists of microscopic pairs or transistors and capacitors that comprise a "Memory cell". There may be some ECC correction of faults
built in, but once enough of these cells fail, it can cause mysterious problems to develop.

Units that have been exposed to high heat environments or shock (such as from being dropped) can cause RAM errors to develop.

The results can be things like unexpected reboots, user data that wont delete after a hard reset, mysterious problems with routes not fully loading and other inconsistencies like that.
I have experienced all of these with this unit.

Now, obviously it is also possible that other electronic flaws such as bad connections, circuit board flaws, bad batteries can also cause similar problems.

Just wondering if anyone else has had these types of problems or if there's a thread here somewhere that discusses this.
I'm returning the unit in any event, but still interested in your experience.

Thanks

Unfortunately, unexpected reboots and mysterious problems with routes are common with any of the recent nuvis. I would not associate these with RAM problems unless they are chronic.

When your user data does not delete after a reset, that is almost always the result of a stray .gpx file hanging around on the device. This typically happens when you send routes or waypoints to the Nuvi with Basecamp, Mapsource or another method. The data is contained in a .gpx file which the Nuvi imports when it boots. If you don't remove that file, it will be imported again after a reset.

The problems persist even after deleting ALL files from the GPX folder and trying everything again.
I have deleted all gpx folder files, THEN performed a hard reset, THEN retried the routes.
These are electronic devices. Like all electronic devices, they certainly can have electronic problems. It isn't unthinkable.

You could also check other places for stray .gpx files. I believe the Nuvi will import them even if they aren't in the GPX directory.
