BaseCamp 4.3.0.2 BETA is now available and can be downloaded here:

http://developer.garmin.com/apps/BC/BaseCampBeta_4.3.0.2.exe.zip

You will need to unzip the file before installing.

This release does not support XP.

You do not have to uninstall BaseCamp 4.2.5 and it will not overwrite that installation. The BETA and an official release of BaseCamp will live side-by-side but must be used separately. However the 4.3.0.1 BETA will be replaced.

Below is a list of changes. This is only a BETA release.

Added “Find Intersection” to the Find menu
Added parsing of the primary find text into address search fields
Improved ordering of auto-complete results
Improved street auto-complete results when searching for streets with prefixes and suffixes
Improved some usability issues with address and intersection searching
Improved recovery from corrupted cache information from device maps

Post here if you have questions.

The BETA is currently only for English users.

Before using this release, back up your data.

Please post any bugs you may find here. This release is to assist us in testing with a wider user base and wider set of devices. Bugs may be present, and any feedback is welcomed.

NOTE: We are aware of several issues with address searching on devices. We ask our users to please test this very well and let us know of the issues you find. Some of them will be duplicates of issues we have already found, but the advanced address search is new for this release and we need a good test bed to be sure that the feature is working correctly when we do the full release.

Again, thank you for all who participate.

This is another reason I wish they'd add support for naming convention on their db.

For technical reasons I wouldn't be too hopeful about that.

I have come to a point that Basecamp is a better option than Mapsource with this Beta release, but it has barely tipped the scales.

For the reasons you stated I plan to continue using MapSource for as long as possible. Eventually newer Garmin maps will stop working in it. In fact there are known areas in the US and Europe City Navigator maps that will cause it to crash (there are posts on this site about that).

I've said this many times before but IMO BaseCamp was never intended, when it was introduced, to be a general solution like MapSource.

That said it is what it is.

PS: I should add that I've been "playing" with BC since v2.03 (it's initial public release in mid 2009) even though it is not my primary GPS software. I also have, and have used, all public releases of MapSource from v2.00 to v6.16.3.

Thanks, but no thanks. I have a lot of stuff on my PC that doesn't need to be on my GPS. I like to keep my data on my GPS pretty constrained to the task, be it normal, local stuff, or a long trip plan.

I don't need ten years of history and 5 years of planned stuff that is easily managed on my PC to be on my GPS.

That would be simple. Just move what you don't want on your gps to another directory.

I do want it, I just don't need it on my GPS all the time.
  • Then just move it into Basecamp and keep just what you want on your GPS. I've done that with Basecamp for years.

I think we have a disconnect here.

I was replying to "RAYCOCK"s suggestion to "HOTSYNCH" everything to the GPS. There were a few exchanges, but basically, I really don't want any unauthorized synching between My Collection and my GPS. I keep way too much info in Basecamp to have it all on my GPS at once. And then he suggested different directories, which doesn't appeal to me either.

I wasn't raising a problem, I was expressing my reluctance to his suggestion.

This is a beta release. The 4.3 help is not ready yet and the web link is based on version number. This is expected currently.
  • I did notice another minor annoyance with 4.3.0.2.

The "Sort" setting in the small pane does not persist between sessions (or possibly reboot?)

I like it to sort by "Name", but it seems to revert back to "Symbol".

With our latest build I could not reproduce this. This may be beta related. There are a number of different behaviors. I would be more worried if 4.2.5 did this.

OK. I'll try to remember to check it on the next production release. Not a huge issue, especially in Beta.
